Urban Planner
E. Holdings, Inc. - Pittsburgh, PA

Position Summary
The core function of the Urban Planner is to work in support of the firm’s provision of professional consulting services to a wide variety of public and private sector clients. The Urban Planner shall work both individually and within the multi-disciplinary structure of the firm, providing technical support to projects.
The primary focus will be on urban planning, including but not limited to, participation and input in the community visioning and planning projects, comprehensive planning, zoning, strategic planning, transit planning, and communications projects. The Urban Planner will also provide planning support to our
Communications Team and GIS Team, helping to transform technical information to be public-facing and understandable to the general public, and be able to work with diverse stakeholder groups.

The selected candidate must demonstrate excellent verbal and written communication skills and be able to work independently and accurately on complex planning projects. The selected candidate must show the ability to analyze project data in relation to applicable codes and regulations to generate creative, workable solutions and achieve project success. The Urban Planner will demonstrate technical writing skills, strong oral communication skills, preparation of public-facing presentations, and supporting graphics.

Job Responsibilities
85% - Consulting Services/Technical Support/Project Execution/Creation of Client Deliverables

  • Provide technical work related to planning projects such as community visioning studies, comprehensive plans, transit plans, zoning ordinances, and other related projects.
  • Actively contribute to community visioning exercises, including precedent research and the sourcing / gathering of precedent images.
  • Develop and implement outreach and involvement initiatives in accordance with client’s requirements including working across diverse community and neighborhood settings.
  • Record and maintain accurate documentation of public events, publications, and interactions including meeting summaries, attendance, comments, etc.
  • Update job knowledge continuously regarding planning, community and urban design and sustainability issues, ideas and methods as well as engagement tools and strategies, and is knowledgeable in current trends, practices, technology, and information affecting the planning profession.
  • Attend, facilitate, present, and coordinate logistics, collateral materials, and displays for public or community meetings or forums.
  • Plan public outreach initiatives including the development of outreach materials.
  • Work collaboratively with GIS analysists and Graphic Designers on cartography and the creation of mapping products and analysis.
  • Technical support to engineering, communications, and business management teams
  • Technical writing and report generation for client deliverables

15% - Business Development

  • Provide input into and help implement the business development plan for urban planning services.
  • Expand the Company’s exposure through networks in the region.
  • Help to prepare and disseminate information regarding the Company through media sources.
  • Attending various meetings and seminars to look for opportunities to expand the Company’s exposure.
  • Identify opportunities to expand Company brand and influence.
  • All other duties assigned by the manager.

Qualifications

  • Education. Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in

Planning, Urban Design, or related field is required. Master's degree in planning, urban design, or related field and certification in the American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP) is preferred.

  • Experience. 4-7 years of experience in community planning, urban planning, community relations, project administration, community development, and/or government relations is required.

Consulting experience is HIGHLY preferred.

  • Skills. The position requires excellent skills in time management, organization, and the ability to communicate effectively across various mediums. In addition, the position requires, but is not limited to, the following: o Strong knowledge and understanding of various built form typologies and planning documents and related urban design policies. o Effective communication skills including verbal, written, and presentation skills. o Experience in collecting and compiling research materials and technical writing. o Proficiency in MS Office is required; experience with creating and manipulating data, spreadsheets, and pivot tables in Excel preferred. o Knowledge of ESRI GIS software, such as ArcGIS Desktop and AGOL, Geoprocessing

Tools, and GIS data management/geodatabases; digitizing and data manipulation procedures for GIS. o Proficiency required in Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign required; Illustrator and Photoshop a plus). o Additional proficiencies may include Sketch-up, other 3D Software, and/or Revit. o Creativity, initiative, good judgment, and the ability to express thoughts clearly and simply. o Demonstrated willingness to be flexible and adaptable to changing priorities. o Decision-making and problem-solving skills. o Ability to network on a variety of levels. o Analyze situations accurately and recommend an effective course of action. o Work independently with little direction. o Strong multi-tasking and organizational skills. o Meet tight schedules and timelines. o The physical ability to cope with long hours and a stressful work environment.

  • Additional Notes:

o This position is not remote. The Urban Planner will be required to work in the office at least three (3) days a week. o A valid driver’s license is required. o The ability to travel is required (approximately 10%). o The ability to work occasional evenings and weekends is required.
