POSITION SUMMARY
The TRiO Upward Bound Students Services Specialist provides academic support and college preparation activities to low-income, first-generation, college bound high school students enrolled in the federally funded program. The Student Services Specialist conducts recruitment, provides retention activities, and other important duties in support of meeting the program's objectives.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Student Recruitment
  • Identifies and recruit qualified students by working with program staff and grant school liaisons
  • Makes recommendations to the project director for participant admission to program
  • Fosters positive working relationships with grant school staff, college and university partners, other TRiO programs, and other community partners

Academic & Program Support
  • Monitors participants' academic progress and college readiness
  • Meets with each participant regularly to advise and support his or her academic needs, academic goals, and college planning
  • Provide guidance and make appropriate referrals
  • Assists with academic support, college preparation and retention activities for program participants: tutoring, workshops, field trips, Saturday Academies, Summer Academy

Data Collection & Reporting
  • Maintains on-going accurate case notes and student records and documentation in hard copy and Student Access Database
  • Assists with the longitudinal data collection for reporting in the Annual Performance Report

CANDIDATE QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution
-AND-
At least one year experience working with diverse populations
-AND-
At least one year working with middle or high school students
-AND-
Bilingual English Spanish

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Academic coursework and/or major in education, counseling, social science, or related field
  • Experience working with low-income, first generation, college bound high school students in an Advising or mentoring capacity
  • Similarity in background to that of program participants
  • TRiO experience
  • Demonstrated skills in motivating students academically
  • Database experience

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT
  • This is a 100%, 12-month classified assignment of the B3 band and grade. Please note: The college is currently undertaking a comprehensive classification and compensation study. No employee will lose base pay because of this study, however, classification titles and pay grades may change. The successful candidate will receive notice of all changes prior to implementation which is currently projected for the Summer of 2024.
  • This positions is grant funded and continuation of the position is contingent on grant funds. This position is currently funded until August 31, 2027.
  • This position has a 6-month probationary period
  • All positions at Chemeketa are required to be available for work onsite as requested by the college.
  • Requires flexible work schedule to meet program needs, which may include evenings and/or weekends
  • This position may require the use of your personal vehicle for transportation between campus locations
  • If requested, requires the provision of official transcripts upon hire
  • Employees must maintain Oregon, Washington or Idaho residency as a condition of employment.
  • Successful applicants for designated positions must successfully pass a background inquiry, which may include criminal, driving, credit and full background checks. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Light Work:Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. Even though weight lifted may be negligible, it may be rated light work if frequent walking and/or standing is required.

    PUBLIC SERVICE LOAN FORGIVENESS
    Chemeketa Community College is considered a qualifying public employer for the purposes of the Public Service Loan Forgiveness Program. Through the Public Service Loan Forgiveness program, full-time employees working at the College may qualify for forgiveness of the remaining balance on Direct Loans after 120 qualifying monthly payments under a qualifying repayment plan.
