Description
Christian Junior Senior High School, a college preparatory school in the greater San Diego, is accepting applications for a Drama teacher for 2024-2025. The successful teacher must be dynamic and demonstrate strong interpersonal skills. Candidate must be passionate about engaging students in guiding them to think, learn and live from a Biblical worldview.
- Plan for and teach theatre-related classes including Junior High Beginning Drama, High School beginning Drama, and Advanced Production as well and Technical Theatre.
- Coordinate, produce, block, choreograph, and direct approximately 2 Middle School plays, and 2-3 High School productions per school year including 1 musical annually.
- Audition students to select cast and assign parts
- Assign non-performing students to backstage production tasks
- Organize and maintain production calendars, and work with school & church admin. to schedule play dates.
- Order scripts, choose plays or musicals, and coordinate stage production, including sets, props, and costumes
- Produce marketing materials, including programs, flyers, posters, promo-videos and show announcements
- Maintain and organize inventory of all set items, scenery, tools, paint, costumes, script-library, and props
- Maintain drama budget.
- Manage productions, including tech, lighting, sound, and backstage management
- Lead after-school and weekend student rehearsals
- Teach enunciation, diction, voice development, and dialects, using voice exercise, speech drills, explanation, lectures, theatre-safety, theatre-history, technical theatre skills, tool-use, and improvisation
- Discuss and demonstrate vocal and body expression to teach acting styles, character development, and personality projection
- Participate in CA Educational Theatre Association workshops and competitions, including 3-day trip to their festival each January.
- Assist with Upper Level student-monologue auditions for college interviews/auditions.
- Organize and supervise parent volunteers.
- Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, with students, parents, coaches, and other professionals on a regular basis.
- Theatre background a must.
- This position requires a working knowledge of theatre, creativity, flexibility, organization, and the passion to mold novice student actors into professional actors and technicians with an ensemble-focus.
Qualifications
Expected qualification: Bachelor's degree in field of study
Preferred qualifications: M.A. in field of study, state credential, 3+ years of teaching experience

- Possess spiritual maturity, academic ability, and personal leadership qualities to "train up a child in the way he should go."
- Possess a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.
- Possess or will posses within the first year of CUSSD employment an ACSI temporary teacher certification.
- Retain state issued teacher credentials, or
- All teachers must obtain a valid teaching credential within five years of being employed at CUSSD (some subjects do not apply).
