Overview:

The University Staff Chaplain for Catholic Life, working part-time approximately 12-15 hours per week, is responsible for leading and coordinating Catholic religious activities and community life at Quinnipiac. This role serves as a valuable resource on Catholic theology and religious matters, offering guidance on spiritual, ethical, and faith-based questions. Collaborating with the Office of Religious Life, the chaplain plays a crucial role in enhancing the visibility of religion on campus through tradition-specific and interfaith programs, contributing to a vibrant spiritual presence at university events.

This is a part-time, non-benefits-eligible position.

  • Meet Catholic sacramental and liturgical needs through coordination with local clergy to ensure practicing students, faculty, and staff have access to key services including Mass, confession, and religious celebrations
  • Provide religious counseling, guidance, and emotional support to students and community members seeking spiritual assistance
  • Offer religious services and support at university events as necessary, including invocations, blessings, or spiritual guidance
  • Foster community by actively promoting the growth and cohesion of the Catholic community through the organization of community-building events, student organizations, and participation in related activities
  • Educate the university community through developing and conducting educational programs, workshops, and outreach efforts to enhance understanding of Catholic beliefs and traditions.
  • Serve as a resource and advocate for religious and spiritual guidance while providing inclusive support for individuals across various religious/non-religious affiliations.
  • Actively participate in all mandatory university, division, and Office of Religious Life activities
  • Assist Catholic student organizations by providing guidance, resources, and support for their initiatives
  • Additional duties as required
Education Requirements:
  • Master of Divinity/Master of Theological Studies required
Qualifications:
  • Proficiency in essential computer skills including word processing, database management, and basic graphic design
  • Possession of CCMA (Certification in College Ministry and Administration) certification is a valuable asset, showcasing a commitment to professional development
  • A demonstrated commitment to a student-centered approach to ministry
  • An ability to adjust to a dynamic work environment and changing institutional needs, showing flexibility, adaptability, and resilience
  • Excellent organizational, communication, leadership, and administrative skills
  • Willing and available to work nights and weekends to accommodate the schedule of university events and religious services
  • Comfortable with and committed to working in an interfaith, non-proselytizing, team environment which emphasizes inclusivity and cooperation
  • Preferred minimum of one year of experience working in a higher education chaplaincy setting
  • Preferred ordination within the Catholic tradition and/or membership in a recognized Catholic order
