Tri Pointe Connect is looking for an experienced individual to join our talented group as an Underwriting Manager.

 

Position Highlights: The underwriting department at Tri Pointe Connect is a core department of the organization, helping determine borrower eligibility to obtain mortgage loan financing. The Underwriting Manager will lead a group of seasoned underwriters through all aspects of underwriting, including daily workload management, file prioritization, managing and decisioning escalations, and monitoring productivity and loan quality. The Underwriting Manager will assist underwriters with career objectives such as attaining additional delegation/certifications. A successful Underwriting Manager displays a strong desire for unparalleled customer service, is willing to work in a team atmosphere, employs excellent communication skills (both written and verbal), is well-organized, has deep mortgage industry knowledge, and is extremely detail-oriented.

 

 

Position Responsibilities:

  • Oversee day to day operations within underwriting department to ensure excellence in customer service, compliance with all policies procedures, and regulations, as well as productivity and quality standards are met
  • May be required to underwrite/provide second signatures on complex or adverse files as applicable
  • Monitor processes and efficiencies and work with VP, Fulfillment Operations to identify key areas to improve productivity, loan quality, or customer experience
  • Oversee underwriting results to ensure adherence to all investor and agency guidelines
  • Conduct 1:1’s, huddles, and departmental meetings to ensure consistent communication is provided to all team members
  • Manages and monitors loan quality, to include pre-funding and post-funding QC scores and trends; working to keep QC metrics within company established limits as well as to identify and eradicate any negative trends
  • Ensure departmental and individual underwriter compliance with regulatory requirements including but not limited to HMDA and ECOA
  • Communicate verbally and electronically with internal parties applicable to the transaction including but not limited to loan consultants, loan processors, and operational and sales managers as applicable
  • Manage pipeline deadlines to ensure loans are decisioned in accordance with critical milestones to meet purchase contract close of escrow deadlines
  • Responsible for all aspects of personnel management including hiring, employee evaluations, disciplinary actions, salary recommendations, and termination
  • Address all escalations within a timely manner, working with internal operations and sales team members and leadership to resolve internal and external concerns with respect to loan decisions or loan conditions
  • Provide coaching and career development for underwriters seeking to grow their delegated authority
  • Respond to post-closing audit requests as well as assist with resolution for any closed loan files requiring additional documentation
  • Monitor results of all audits and identify areas needing improvement and additional training
  • Interface with investors and various GSE and government agencies (FNMA, FHLMC, HUD, VA)
  • Assist with developing relevant training materials, checklists, or additional supplemental documents to help teach and train on various underwriting-related processes or guidelines
  • As required, participate in special projects or assignments

 

 

Position Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Minimum 10 years experience with underwriting, including 5-7 years government underwriting and minimum 5 years underwriting leadership; purchase/builder experience preferred
  • MS Office; including Outlook, Word, and Excel
  • Encompass LOS experience preferred
  • Must be able to work in office located in Scottsdale, AZ

  • Strong knowledge of underwriting guidelines – Fannie Mae/Freddie Mac as well as investor-specific guidelines as applicable
  • Strong regulatory knowledge, including ECOA, HMDA, RESPA, and other applicable federal or state-specific guidelines
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to assess risk and recommend appropriate action to ensure loan quality and salability
  • Ability to resolve time-sensitive escalations in an urgent manner, ensuring processes are in place or implemented to mitigate future escalations
  • Motivate team members to perform in times of high demand, ensuring loan quality and productivity are balanced
  • Strong ability to effectively manage through times of growth and change
