Job description

Under the direct supervision of Student Affairs Officer III and CAO, assist in all aspects of undergraduate student affairs for the department of Asian Languages & Cultures.
Advise undergraduate and graduate students on policies, procedures, and degree requirements; assess, communicate, and record academic progress; compile pertinent data to make recommendations to the chair and faculty about curriculum and student progress.
Collect and schedule class offerings for the department. Submit requests for changes, updates, and revisions to departmental course offerings. Update departmental databases as needed to track student progress, inform faculty committees, and produce requested ad hoc reports. Assist with graduate admissions process. Process faculty and teaching assistant evaluations administered by the Office of Instructional Development. Maintain and input database for faculty evaluations and teaching records.
Assist with special events: Graduate Orientation, Freshmen Open House, Commencement, and Alumni Lecture. Represent the department of Asian Languages & Cultures as a first contact to assist students at the front desk and on the telephone. Assist with any additional front desk duties, as needed. This may include and is not limited to assisting students or faculty, answering telephones, and keeping the front office organized.

1. Demonstrated skill in employing fundamental counseling techniques with sensitivity sufficient to assist students in the resolution of problems or establishment of academic goals.

2. Skill in interacting with persons of various social, cultural, economic and educational backgrounds for the purpose of advising students and working with faculty, staff and graduate students.
