Job Description
Training and experience: Credentialed in echocardiography from the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical/Cardiac Sonography (ARDMS/ARDCS) and is credentialed in Pediatric and Fetal echocardiography.
Responsibilities: Clinical and Administrative duties:
Performance of Pediatric/Fetal/Adult Congenital Heart Disease Echocardiograms.
- Technician will have extensive knowledge of congenital heart disease and surgical repair.
- Be able to perform comprehensive outpatient Pediatric Transthoracic and Fetal Echocardiograms in accordance with ICAEL (Intersocietal Commission for the Accreditation of Echocardiography Laboratories) and ASE (American Society of Echocardiography) standards. In addition, be proficient in application of new modalities like Tissue Doppler Imaging and Strain Imaging.
- Have exceptional technical skills to consistently be able to image with strong attention to detail and image tiniest structures (for e.g. the coronary arteries) which is essential to complete and accurate diagnosis of congenital heart disease in every study.
- Ability to work with uncooperative, un-sedated children.
- Perform congenital heart disease echocardiograms in patients of all ages ranging from fetus, neonates, children and adults for assessment of congenital heart disease.
- Perform echocardiograms in Pediatric ICU and Neonatal ICU and in the Pediatric Emergency Department.
- Perform echocardiograms in extremely premature neonates, specifically targeted towards the need of their fragile state.
- Perform echocardiograms in adult patients with CHD followed in Pediatric Cardiology or referred to Pediatric Cardiology from Adult Cardiology.
- Able to make accurate diagnosis in an emergency when the Pediatric Cardiologist is away and communicate with the PICU and NICU physicians so that the care of a sick patient is not compromised.
- Monitor current scientific and technological updates in the pediatric and fetal echocardiography field and implement these updates in lab operation as needed.
- Analyze, process data and perform calculations appropriate to the study.
- Generate a preliminary report for the pediatric cardiologist.
- Ensure that reports are uploaded to the Electronic Medical Record.
Technical and Administrative duties:
- Schedule all in-patient and outpatient Pediatric Echocardiograms and Fetal Echocardiograms.
- Contact Obstetric patients and inform them of their appointment date and time.
- Complete and designates diagnostic code and corresponding billing codes for pediatric/fetal billing. Enter appropriate technical charges for every procedure.
- Monitor the operation and maintenance of ultrasound machines. Schedule emergency repair of the equipment on as-needed basis
Responsibilities
1. High school graduate or equivalent.
2. Graduate of an AMA-approved Ultrasound program.
3. Eligible for Registry as a Diagnostic Medical Sonographer (RDMS).
