Ultrasonographer (Per Diem/CPT)

Description:

Under the direction of a Radiologist responsible for the operation of diagnostic ultrasound equipment for the performance of all dynamic ultrasound procedures at a technical level not requiring constant supervision. Performs a variety of procedures that require independent judgment, initiative, and ingenuity in order to apply prescribed procedures. May work independently or assist in performing other imaging procedures.

Minimum qualifications:

  • Graduate of a ultrasonography program approved by the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS).

  • Two years college or business school also preferred.

  • Certification by the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonography or registry eligible.

  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification or must be obtained within 30 days of hire through American Heart Association (AHA) or equivalent organization
  • One year practical experience in ultrasound department under the direction of a qualified radiologist, preferred.
  • All ultrasound equipment, PACS, and other equipment associated with the ultrasound department.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Performs all ultrasound examinations ordered by physician. This includes routine and special procedures performed in the department.
  • Responsible for maintaining records of procedures performed, ordering and storage of departmental supplies and supervising proper maintenance of patient files.
  • Responsible for demonstrating correct position of patients, principles of ultrasound and processing, and teleradiology, and professional conduct with patients, peers, staff and others.
  • Represents imaging department at regular department head meetings of the hospital (if applicable) and other ad hoc meetings.
  • Provides input to supervisor regarding improvements and special purchases of the department.
  • Reviews each examination for technical accuracy, presents completed examination to radiologist, and communicates pertinent data to persons responsible for the care of the patient following the procedure.
  • Performs examinations in an accurate and timely manner by responding to change in the work schedule, handling interruptions, functioning as a productive technologist, and completing assignments prior to end of shift.
  • Properly positions patients and is knowledgeable of why and how positions are utilized for good ultrasound imaging.
  • Selects a transducer and adjusts the equipment controls according to the organ to be examined, the depth of field and other specifications of test.
  • Completely performs all diagnostic procedures.
  • Moves transducer, by hand, over specified area of the body and observes sound wave display screen to monitor quality of ultrasonic pattern produced.
  • Is proficient and competent in patient handling and body mechanics.
  • Must be kind, gentle and courteous attentive, always being conscious of the comfort and safety of patient.
  • Properly assesses patient and plans imaging needs.
  • Assures that adequate and pertinent data is communicated to peers and medical providers accurately and precisely.
  • Assures that each study has correct patient data.
  • Calls reports as needed.
  • Checks for prior studies for comparison.
  • Properly logs, orders and charges of exams.
  • Assesses and adjusts care/treatment to be compatible with the growth and development of the patient.
  • Assesses patient’s level of understanding and adjusts care appropriately.
  • Provides patient and family with information about the department environment and various aspects of the procedure/treatment/plan of care.
  • Obtains supplies, equipment and instruments in relation to the size of the patient.
  • Assesses age related changes; for example: vision, hearing and skin condition.
  • Assesses physical limitation of elderly patients.
  • Assesses adjustment dosage of medication relating to age.

Additional 15% (on base wage) in lieu of benefits and Paid Sick Leave accrual (.025/hr)

Salary Range:

This is a union position on the union wage scale (24 steps) and the selected candidate will be placed on the wage scale at the years of experience per the contract. Step 1: $37.95/hr, Step 12: $47.18/hr, Step 24: $59.84/hr
