Sonographer Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
- Specializes in performing Ultrasound diagnostic studies on Veterinary patients. Responsible for performing all aspects of patient exam activities at a technical level that will produce high quality images consistent with established policies and procedures
- Under the direction of a Radiologist, performs sonographic procedures at a technical level not requiring constant supervision of technical detail; performs a variety of technical procedures that will require independent judgment with ingenuity and initiative
- Assist in guidance of needle placement for fine needle aspirates by a licensed veterinary technician or veterinarian
- Recognizes, identifies and appropriately documents normal anatomy, abnormalities/pathology and pathophysiology for accurate diagnosis
- Operates assigned Ultrasound scanning equipment to ensure it works properly
- Positions patients, selects appropriate transducers and machine settings and conducts scanning procedures to correctly capture the images requested by a Veterinarian
- Maintains all required documentation, logs, charts, forms and records in paper and/or electronic formats
- May assist other areas of Radiology as assigned and performs other related duties as required and directed
Unit Specific Education/Experience/Skills
Knowledge normally acquired in the first two or three years in college, technical, vocational or business school in Radiologic Technology or Ultrasonography; up to six months of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in ultrasound examinations; or an equivalent combination of education and experience; certification by the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers or must be obtained within first year of employment for continued employment. May require certification in a specialty area.
Desired Qualifications
- Graduation from an approved school of medical sonography.
- Registration as Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer (RDMS).
