GENERAL DESCRIPTION

Summer Internships are available at the Texas Department of Motor Vehicles (TxDMV). The Summer Internship positions are available to students enrolled in or recently graduated from an accredited college, university, vocational, trade, or technical school.  Summer Internships are paid, full-time, temporary employment positions that begin no earlier than May 15, 2024, and end no later than August 31, 2024.

This Summer Internship position will be in the Vehicle Titles and Registration (VTR) Division's Registration Services Section. Work requires contact with governmental agencies and the public. Coordinates confidential and time-sensitive correspondence, emails and phone communications. Work involves organizing workload demands and meeting deadlines; providing effective interpersonal and written communications that enhances customer service; and promoting teamwork. Work also involves researching, problem solving and report preparation. Writing, editing and proofreading text. Employees at this level perform work independently on assignments; however all unusual issues are referred to the supervisor.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

Responds to external requests for access to protected files.

Contacts customers to clarify request, and to obtain additional information to ensure applications/contracts are complete.

Research and analyze manuals, regulations and laws to ensure compliance with established procedures and resolves problems.

Collaborates with and collects information from other agencies and TxDMV staff as needed to provide information and services to external and internal customers. 

Enters applicable information into databases, processes letters and emailed correspondence to customers, and performs other general clerical services. Uses various databases to store and manage data.

Writing, editing and proofreading text.

Retrieve title and registration information from master files or databases and verifies against applications, forms and original documents.

Handle confidential and sensitive correspondence and communications regarding compliance with Drivers Privacy Protection Act (DPPA).

Provide internal and external customer service through oral and written communications.

Maintain a productive working relationship with coworkers, management and customers.

Perform additional related duties as assigned by the VTR Managers and/or Lead Workers

May travel up to 10% of the time. Travels by car (may include flying). May include overnight travel. May require working extended hours and some evenings and weekends, as needed.

Required to attend work regularly and adhere to approved work hours in accordance with department policies and procedures.

Performs other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  • Currently enrolled or graduated within the past 12 months from an accredited college, university, vocational, trade, or technical school with a grade point average of 2.5 or higher. 
  • At least 18 years of age
  • Eligible to work in the United States
  • We will require an official transcript to be provided to Human Resources for review prior to starting with TxDMV.

Preferred Requirements:

  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Word and Adobe Acrobat. Experience with Adobe FrameMaker or similar document processing software also preferred. Experience with writing, editing, proofreading, technical writing or journalism preferred.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

REGISTRATION, CERTIFICATION AND/OR LICENSURE

A valid Class "C" driver's license is required. If not currently a Texas resident, must obtain a Texas Driver's License within 90 days after entering Texas as a new resident. A satisfactory driving record is required for operating state or personal vehicles to conduct department business.

Job offers and continuation of employment is contingent upon:

  • Proof of education listed on the application

  • Satisfactory results from a pre-employment criminal history background check and driver's record check
  • Compliance with Selective Service registration for males ages 18-25
  • Required to attend work regularly and observe approved work hours in accordance with department policies and procedures.

MILITARY

If selected for the position the following must be provided for proof of military employment preference:

  • Veteran must provide form DD 214
  • Surviving Spouse or Orphan must provide DD 1300 or DD 214.
