Summary of Description:
The Technician will work under the supervision of an assigned specific discipline and based on experience the individual evaluates, selects, and applies standard applicable techniques. Could include discipline work of purchasing, expediting, NDT Inspection, Project Controls, surveying, laser scanning, schedulers, planner, construction inspectors, project coordinators, automation, controls, etc.
Duties:
  • Assists assigned supervisor in various aspects of projects assigned.
  • Applying standard discipline techniques to make minor adaptations and modifications.
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned.

Education and Experience:
High School Diploma or equivalent (G.E.D.) with additional specialized training, or college course work, and at least eleven (11) years of experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above.
License Requirements:
  • Valid Driver's License as per State law or requirement

Specific Skills:
  • Detailed working knowledge of Policies and Procedures related to project work.

Physical Requirements:
  • Ability to walk up to one mile on industrial plant and construction sites outdoors at any time of the year.
  • Ability to work in protective clothing which may elevate body temperatures by several degrees Fahrenheit for periods of up to 15 minutes without a break.
  • Ability to use multi-level stair towers and rung ladders unassisted.
  • Ability to hear safety alarms and signals while wearing hearing protection.
  • Ability to sit at desk and operate computer for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to stand, use hands and fingers, grip, handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl; and talk and hear.
  • Ability to see with visual acuity and distinguish between colors.
  • Ability to operate a motor vehicle and have a valid driver's license.
  • Ability to lift and carry 15 lbs. on a regular basis is required and at times lifting up to 25 lbs. may be required.

Requirements
(Due to in plant position the below referenced Job Duties have been provided by client)
• Ensure effective scheduling, planning, cost estimating and budgeting in preparation for Turnarounds.
• Ensures all turnarounds are scheduled with the approved scheduling tool within the requirements specified in the Turnaround manual.
• Accountable for monitoring, controlling, forecasting and reporting turnaround/shutdown event schedule and costs in all stages.
KeyAccountabilities
• Work with Operations/ Maintenance to perform adequate upfront planning, scheduling and cost forecasting for Sasol plant turnarounds.
• Implements cost management and reporting processes for the TAR execution plan, consistent with the Turnaround Finance Standard, and Recommended Practices in Estimating & Budget, and Cost Control.
• Oversee the assembly of the estimates at each phase for each turnaround event.
• Ensure repeatability between estimates for repeating scope from one TAR to the next and to ensure all scope and assumptions are properly captured in the estimate e.g. expense v. capital, etc. according to standardized list of typical TAR related costs.)
• Responsible for assembly of budgets for all site turnaround events, compliant with the recommended practice
• Responsible for preparation and submittal of required cost reports for each event.
• Assist Contracts and Procurement with contractor reporting requirements and ensures appropriate language in contracts.
• Progress monitoring of cost and schedule adherence during Turnarounds based on inputs from onsite coordinators, construction managers and / or quantity surveyors.
• Maintain a Milestone and Activity Dashboard that identifies required activities to effectively and systematically organize and plan work for turnaround execution.
• Oversight and integration of contract planners' schedules and forecasts.
• Communicate Turnaround Schedules on daily and weekly basis with updates as appropriate for the shutdown phase and needs to overcome barriers to meet objectives.
• Ensure turnaround work scope is integrated with capital and engineering project plans and schedules (where applicable), creating one overall integrated execution plan.
• Identify critical and "at risk" activities to allow for mitigation planning and keeping the Turnaround Team aligned to schedule goals and KPI's.
• Provide Daily Updates to all key stakeholders during work execution.
• Ensure turnaround schedule feeds cost forecast.
• Preparation of Event Project controls premise documents
• Management of change management process and closure of deficiencies as realized
• Is mindful of and continues to look for opportunities to reduce turnaround cost.
• Participates in the Lessons Learned for turnaround events.
Education
• Bachelor's degree in project management or construction management preferred;
• Project Management Professional Certification or AACE certification preferred.
Working Experience
• Minimum 10 years scheduling, planning, cost estimating and cost control experience in construction and turnarounds - required
• Quantity surveying experience would be advantageous
• Previous experience in a Maintenance planning / scheduling role or Maintenance/Construction Management involving multiple crafts.
Required Skills
• Turnaround cost estimating and cost management experience.
• Thorough understanding of change management principles.
• Excellent in data processing and organization
• Proficient in using Microsoft Projects, Primavera (P6), SAP and Excel.
• Good written and verbal communication skills to all levels of management up to VP level
• Customer focus
• Works effectively in a Team environment and builds consensus
• Ability to work in a highly demanding and fast paced job, particularly during execution.
• Manage multiple turnaround events being planned and sometimes executed simultaneously.
• Ability to take lessons learnt from past or current turnarounds as well as benchmarking from other companies to improve on the existing processes in the TAR management plan/procedure.
• Maintain strong relationship with entire team during times of high energy and stress.
