Assistant Teachers must enjoy working with babies and children ages 0-4 and their adults. They are expected to interact with families with a positive attitude and provide valuable support to lead teachers before, during, and after class time.
Duties include:
- Assisting lead teachers with any room set-up or preparation and clean up (arriving 15 minutes before class and staying a reasonable amount of time afterwards)
- Greeting families when they arrive for class and making connections at the end of class
- Handing class materials/instruments to the lead teacher and families for each activity
- Modeling proper participation in all class activities
- Assisting students/parents with activities (i.e. playing the xylophone)
- Refocusing students/guiding parents – light classroom management
- Leading class activities as assigned by the lead teacher (i.e. reading a book, leading movement with shakers/scarves)
- Communicating with lead teachers and program administration regarding absences, substitutes, or other pertinent information
- Any other duties assigned by lead teachers or program administration
Minimum Qualifications:
- 18 years of age minimum
- 1+ year(s) of teaching experience
- Must be able to sing in tune and keep a steady beat
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in music education or early childhood education
- Knowledge or training in the Suzuki Method
- String Sprouts training
- Excellent communication skills & reliable workplace attendance
Assistant teaching assignments contingent upon:
- Completion of Tuneful Tots Assistant Teacher Training at the Omaha Conservatory of Music
- Must study the songs and rhymes of the SECE curriculum and be prepared to perform them during training and lead activities in demonstration classes.
- Assistant Teachers must have consistent availability throughout the 24 weeks of classes in order to be assigned to a specific class(es). Substitute assistants may have rotating availability, but it is not preferred.
Salary: $15-30 per-hour (commensurate with experience); Benefits may apply.
Work Environment: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is not exposed to weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment varies from quiet to loud.
American With Disabilities Requirements: This position will need to be able to move every few minutes between standing, sitting on the floor, and moving around the room. Must be able to work with one or two hands. Will need to be able to raise, lower, and carry up to 50 pounds throughout the class.
