Trucking Terminal Manager - Tuscaloosa, Al

We are currently recruiting for a Terminal Manager for our Tuscaloosa, Alabama location.

The Terminal Manager oversees the terminal operations by managing drivers, serving customers, and creating a safe work environment while excelling in service quality and maintaining regulatory compliance.

This position reports to a Regional Manager and interacts with Drivers, Independent Contractors, management, Safety, and internal and external customers.

Terminal Manager Responsibilities:

• Oversees the process of loading & unloading freight by meeting pick-up and delivery requirements.
• Responsible for revenue growth, productivity, drives high level of customer service, and strives to ensure excellent safety records and compliance with state and federal DOT/OSHA standards.
• Provides leadership and accountability to a team of 8 drivers by assisting in solving problems and answering questions in a timely and effective manner.
• Recruits, hires, onboards, and retains terminal staff.
• Builds relationships with existing and prospective customers.
• Attentive to market trends and feedback from customers that could have positive or negative impact on the team.
• Initiates engagement with local customers and responds to questions or concerns either through direct response or obtaining information from the relevant department and responding accordingly.
• Calls customers to obtain directions information and schedule loading/delivery appointments, as necessary.
• Grows local customer base.
• Verifies route documentation and confirms all routes are correct prior to dispatch times. Ensures fairness, efficiency, and effectiveness of dispatch.
• Completes billing, operations, and safety reports in a timely and error-free manner.
• Coordinates fuel needs and preventative maintenance for vehicle fleet.
• Regularly inspects all vehicles to ensure proper usage and care by Drivers and recommends corrective action as needed.
• Focuses on driver retention by understanding driver requirements/preferences, by monitoring driver performance to ensure driver requirements are being met, and by keeping drivers informed and motivated.
• Provides input on industry and local market trends to maintain competitive driver compensation.
• Leads safety and driver meetings at the terminal.
• Ensures the terminal has the appropriate safety supplies.
• Ensure all equipment meets regularity and corporate compliance.
• Promotes a proactive safety culture within the terminal and enforces a culture of safety through actions and communications.
• Responsible for terminal compliance with state, federal and local regulations.
• Maintains a work atmosphere that represents Ergon well in the workplace, to customers and community.

Terminal Manager Qualifications:

• High School Diploma/GED
• Minimum 5 years of experience in the Transportation Industry.
• Supervisory experience is a plus.
