NOTE: Qualified applicants will be required to take an online exam. Trims and prunes trees, shrubs and hedges; and performs other related duties as required.
Distinguishing Characteristics:
This class differs from classes in the General Laboring series in that the Tree Trimmer is concerned with tree trimming tasks as a regular, substantially full-time assignment, which involve working at heights; whereas classes in the General Laboring series are concerned with performing a variety of unskilled and semi-skilled tasks which may occasionally involve tree trimming tasks not requiring experience or training or specialized knowledge and abilities.
- Examples of Duties
The following are examples of duties and are not necessarily descriptive of any one position in this class. The omission of specific duties statements does not preclude management from assigning such duties if such duties are a logical assignment for the position.
- Climbs ladder mounted on truck and operates power saw, Bushman saw, extension saw, cane knife and other equipment in trimming and pruning trees, shrubs and hedges along County roads and/or highways and on school and other public grounds;
- Loads truck with debris resulting from cutting tree branches, leaves, etc.;
- Observes rules and regulations applicable to the protection of public and private property and public and personal safety;
- Performs other related duties as required.
- Minimum Qualification Requirements
Training and Experience: A combination of education and experience substantially equivalent to graduation from high school and some work experience in trimming and pruning trees and shrubbery working at heights; or any equivalent combination of experience and training.
License Requirement: Possession of a valid motor vehicle driver’s license (equivalent to State of Hawaii Type 3).
Knowledge of: The use and care of power saw and other trimming and pruning tools; tree trimming and pruning methods; safety precautions necessary in working at heights.
Ability to: Work above grounds at varying heights; operate vehicles and simple machinery; understand and carry out oral and written instructions.
Health and Physical Condition: Persons seeking appointment to positions in this class must meet the health and physical condition standards deemed necessary and proper to perform the essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodations.

Pre-Employment/Post-Offer Drug Screening Test: All applicants, who will enter a safety sensitive position or certain designated categories that the Personnel Services Director has established or who are required by law to be drug tested must pass a pre-employment/post-offer drug screening test as a condition of employment. Vacation

The County's leave sharing program allows employees to donate accumulated vacation leave credits to a qualified fellow employee who has a serious personal illness or injury.
