The Travel Controls Engineer role is a unique opportunity for the retired but still wants to work a little, the person who loves to travel, or the freelancer looking for more stable hours. This position will travel to customer sites for days or up to a few months at a time depending on the need, primarily within the eastern and mid-western states.
The role will work on various stages of automation and control projects including control hardware and panel design, PLC programming, HMI design, Vision systems, SCADA systems, troubleshooting/testing/debugging, and related project documentation and deliverables.
This person should be a senior Controls Engineer with the following responsibilities/experience:
- Capable of working independently, as part of a project team, or leading a team of Engineers to complete more complex projects.
- Adherence to and leading others in regard to both client and department-established procedures and workflows.
- Development of subject matter expertise in multiple control system platforms, per management direction.
- Perform as a technical lead for assigned projects.
- Manages quality of deliverables on assigned projects.
- Knowledgeable and experienced with implementing and maintaining a variety of PLC/SCADA/HMI-based systems which could include Rockwell/Allen Bradley, Siemens, Schneider, GE, etc.
- Experience with various communications networks such as Ethernet, Cable, Fiber, Wireless, Telecom, etc. using common industrial protocols such as DH+, DH485, Modbus, Modbus TCP/IP, Ethernet/IP, ControlNet, DeviceNet, Profibus, etc. is an asset
- Work with Senior Engineer / Account Manager to support team members, customer(s), and project goals.
- Download and commission software on the customer's site. Work with the customer to achieve acceptance.
This position will work at one or more local customer locations, depending upon the size of the project(s) at hand. May require on-call and/or off-hour work to support the success of customer operations.
Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in applicable Engineering program and 5 or more years’ experience in Industrial Control systems OR a minimum of 7 years of related experience in Industrial Control Systems with an associate degree in applicable Engineering program OR a minimum of 9 years of related experience in Industrial Control systems.
- Knowledge of the general workflow of a controls/engineering project.
- Strong customer relations skills. Shows a keen interest in clients and their business.
- Ability to work cross-functionally with a diverse group of people and roles across the business. Demonstrates a willingness to collaborate with others through listening, showing respect, and asking questions.
- Sound decision making and problem-solving abilities; takes initiative to solve problems.
- Ability to manage self by meeting deadlines, seeking work, being dependable and punctual.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office suite.
- Ability to work in manufacturing environment with occasional to frequent exposure to noise, fumes, dust, and temperature extremes.
- Major manufacturer industrial control system exposure preferred.
- Control system design experience preferred.
Job Type: Part-time
Pay: $30.00 - $50.00 per hour
