Position Summary
The Transporter supports the Crisis Receiving for Behavioral Health (CRBH) program by providing transportation within Sacramento County to CRBH patients upon exit from the CRBH program.
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent required.
- Current CPR and first aid certificate or willingness to be trained required within the first (90) ninety days of employment.
- Must be able to assist with loading and unloading patients who are in a wheelchair or need assistance.
- Be willing to transport patients daily as an essential part of the job and duties.
- Must have a valid CA driver’s license and an insurable driving record.
- Ability to work holidays, weekends, and alternative shifts, as needed to maintain required staffing levels.
- Must read and interpret a map and/or use GPS navigation safely while driving while hands-free.
- Ability to abide by standards of professional ethics and maintain confidentiality.
- Communicate clearly and concisely, both verbally and in writing, and demonstrate a high level of listening skills.
- Fluency in additional languages preferred.
- Exceptional interpersonal skills.
- Excellent customer service experience, including active listening, problem-solving, and calmness in emotional or stressful situations.
- Commitment to HIPAA and ability to abide by standards of professional ethics and maintain confidentiality.
- Adherence to infection control procedures, including but not limited to standard precautions of temperature monitoring, hand washing, symptom self-monitoring, masking, and social distancing.
- Assist and support the Center/Department/Program to meet standards of High Reliability.
- Successful completion of all required organizational and CRISIS program training
Essential Responsibilities
- Work as part of a multidisciplinary team with patients experiencing homelessness and co-occurring disorders such as mental health, chronic medical conditions, and substance use disorders at a high acuity care facility requiring 24/7 patient support and monitoring.
- Work with various people, including those from low-income populations with diverse education, lifestyles, ethnicities, and cultural origins.
- Engage with community members experiencing homelessness, disabilities, substance use, HIV( AIDS) infection, and/or mental health crisis.
- Transport 6-7 hours of an 8-hour shift transporting staff and patients.
- Ensure the patient's belongings are properly stored in provided storage.
- Interact with patients and partners courteously and respectfully.
- Ensure the van is properly maintained and in safe operating condition before each use. Notify the supervisor of necessary repairs or safety issues.
- Clean interior and exterior of van daily (including windows).
- Ensure the van has sufficient fuel for the trip. Transport 12-20 patients a shift for intakes and discharges to and from CRBH.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment. Keep the workload of transports organized.
- Must always present a professional appearance per WellSpace Health’s personal appearance policy.
- Maintain a record of vehicle mileage and condition.
- Exercise good judgment and extreme caution when operating a motor vehicle. Critical when navigating downtown and during commuting hours.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in performing duties.
- Transport to all areas in Sacramento County, including but not limited to hospitals, patient's homes, treatment centers, homeless encampments, and dark areas in the evening or night.
- Communicate and coordinate with other staff on shift, including but not limited to LVN, SUD Counselor, Resource Specialist, and Reception for patient coordination and care.
- Assist with CRBH daily operations such as laundry, food distribution, cleaning, etc.
- Other duties as assigned.

Physical Demands and Work Environment
The work environment is characteristic of a medical clinic environment. The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit; use hands and arms to reach. The employee is also required to stand; walk; and reach with hands and arms. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust focus. The employee must also possess hearing and speech to communicate in person and over the phone. The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet.
The employee may be in contact with individuals and families in crisis who may be ill, using substances and/or not attentive to personal health and safety for themselves or their homes. The employee may experience a number of unpleasant sensory demands associated with the client’s use of alcohol and drugs, and the lack of personal care. The employee may also be exposed to bodily fluids (blood, urine) and hazardous chemicals.
