Job description

About the Position

The Transportation Planner is responsible for fostering relationships with external customers to ensure freight is transported per customer needs. This position is responsible for facilitating the daily operations with current shippers and carriers, routinely looking for ways to reduce the customers cost while increasing Kenco’s revenue and margin. This position is consultative in providing logistics solutions based on individual customer needs. Accounts are maintained and grown through, high touch customer service, technology tools and daily communication.


Functions

  • Serve as a primary point of contact for dedicated transportation management customers; fostering relationships that are mutually beneficial for both our customers and Kenco that result in increased revenue and margin for Transportation Management.
  • Lead the pricing efforts [asking for this to be clarified]
  • Create effective innovative strategies for customer’s inclusive of profitability analyses, equipment and mode considerations and market capacity intel.
  • Lead the negotiation, pricing, modal decisions, and other commercial terms between carriers to maximize profitability for the account and meet the expectations of the customer for service.
  • Constantly review customer carrier charges and work with carriers to dispute charge backs if needed.
  • Provide guidance to ensure that customer service and service level agreement is protected.
  • Constantly evaluates processes and approach for areas of improvement and efficiency to streamline processes, enhance relationships and grow business margins.
  • Assist in preparing for Quarterly Business Reviews (QBRs) and attend meetings (on/off-site) to assist Kenco Leaders with customer questions and managing expectations
  • Quickly optimize customer’s shipping needs and make quick decisions about shipping modes based on customer’s demands this may include, changing the mode of transportation and date of delivery on one shipment or multiple shipments.
  • Utilize and maintain subject matter knowledge on shipping paper and be able to correctly classify freight to ensure proper rating and carrier selection.
  • Inbound/outbound load planning, shipment tendering, safety and overall customer service functions, ensuring the customers freight handled within our contractual guidelines, proper security measures for high value goods.
  • Maintain fluid communications with internal and external stakeholders regarding established performance metrics and provide insight as needed; ensuring alignment with strategic directives.
  • Assist with freight claims with carriers and payment of freight invoices.
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • Bachelors in Logistics, Accounting, Finance, or equivalent transportation management work experience (1-3 years) required; combination of college and experience preferred.
  • Strong PC skills and proficient with all Microsoft Office applications
  • Effective problem solver and decision maker with a strong capability to assess workload and prioritize tasks.
  • Self-motivated with an eye for detail and ability to work in a fast-paced changing environment.
  • High-touch customer service mindset and ability to provide clear, honest, and proactive communication.
  • Excellent communications and analytical skills with proven ability to follow up on issues
  • Ability to work in a rapidly changing business environment

Travel Requirements

  • This position is expected to travel approximately 10% or less.
