Job Overview
The Transportation Operations Lead will engage in the daily management and tracking of our domestic and international airfreight into the US and Mexico. The role is responsible for working in close collaboration with our partners to ensure the highest quality service for our customers. This position will generate intelligence to provide visibility to carrier and PDC performance around delivery, cost and service. The Transportation Operations Lead will leverage business intelligence and develop and/or modify business and PDC requirements for carrier tenders within the US and Mexico. This role will be responsible for directly managing up to five transportation operational coordinators around the US and Mexico, in our varying distribution network and collaborating with three strategic leads centrally in home office. This individual will be responsible for training, coaching and providing feedback as well as being the initial point person for all things transportation related. This team member will have a direct reporting line to the Transportation Supervisor.
The Transportation Operations Team Leader will perform back up duties to other roles in the Transportation team and assume the role of acting supervisor of Transportation when the supervisor is not available.
Key Responsibilities
Operations
Track and trace inbound/outbound shipments - update shipment statuses in system
Create, distribute and fix all airfreight related documentation
Act as the technical authority for EDI related issues and concerns
Develop performance reporting for management and PDCs
Monitor RPA processes
Submit shipping information to brokers for customs clearance
Act as co-project lead and SME for TM system
Maintain strategic and meaningful relationships with business partners and carriers
o Hold partners accountable with action plans and milestone management
Audit and inspect daily business and KPI's to ensure compliance with contracts
Lead and execute strategic projects to help reduce costs and maintain service levels - responsible for scope and budget management for projects
Work cross-functionally with other members of Part Logistics and PDCs to eliminate waste
Work with BI team and IT to help develop data automation and process streamlining to create job capacity inside transportation team
Act as the technical expert for all tendering needs and requirements
Work in conjunction with the purchasing team as the operational lead
Assist the Planning Specialist with required administrative needs as it pertains to airfreight tendering
Respond/address of internal and external stakeholders
Leadership
Directly lead up to five remote Transportation Operations Coordinators
Create training and process documentation to ensure standardization and appropriate onboarding across network
Provide feedback and guidance to team
Create and manage and internal audit process to ensure processes are followed and adhered to appropriately
Build and lead a culture of high performers
Help teach, coach, train colleagues in lean methodologies
Act as the backup for the Parts Logistics Transportation Supervisor
Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree at an accredited college or university or equivalent work experience
Must have 5-7 (total) of experience in the following: Business administration, operational management/experience, and/or transportation management
Knowledge of administrative procedures, process/project development, and system procedures.
Business General: Knowledge of fundamental business practices and concepts that affect the success and profitability of the organization
Business Management: Knowledge of business and management principles involved in strategic planning, resource allocation, leadership technique, human resource management and efficiency and process methods
Processing: Knowledge of processes, quality control, costs, and other techniques in order to achieve maximum efficiency
Vendor Management: Knowledge of Agency/Vendor management and budget management
Project Management: Knowledge of project management processes, scope and budget management; PMP certified preferred - not necessary
Lean: Knowledge of lean methodologies such as A3 writing, continuous improvement workshop facilitation, and process writing, demonstrated ability to coach and train colleagues and other members of Parts Logistics'
Fundamental knowledge of Logistical and Transportation operations and processes
Additional Requirements
Candidate should have a deep understanding of the Transportation field
Supply Chain background and knowledge of all logistics KPI's
General understanding of regulatory issues as they apply to transportation, i.e. DOT and Hazardous Material Certification as well as a general understanding of U.S. Customs laws and procedures
General understanding of freight documentation (AWB's. B/L's, etc.) including the process of international transportation and the parties involved (airlines, steamship lines, custom house brokers)
Candidate should be proficient in software applications, Microsoft applications and have good communication and oral skills
Must be willing to work holidays and weekends as business requires
Must be willing to travel up to 15% of the time
