Job Description
The Transportation Manager will ensure a Transportation department culture focused on people, safety, service, and cost through meaningful engagements with drivers, best in-class service to customers, and safe and profitable operations. They will use their experience in transportation operations to manage personnel and drive efficient transportation operations through the associates they lead, ensuring the safe, accurate and timely daily outbound shipments to customers and other distribution centers within the organization. Additionally, they will unify SOP’s across all facilities and negotiate freight terms amongst 3PL providers.
Essential Role Functions
Handles the daily work and safety of Delivery supervisors, routing personnel and other associates.
Ensures that management staff is effectively managing the day to day delivery activities, including but not limited to Delivery Associate adherence to standard operating procedures, adherence to planned routes, and providing safe and efficient customer service.
Plan and manage logistics operations liaising with internal stakeholders, suppliers, logistics providers, transportation companies and customers for both Domestic and import & export activities.Deploy and ensure compliance with standard company policies within internal and external partners, including rate management, performance management, and partner engagement.
Lead and support development of global Transportation Partner analytics and KPIs.
Lead 3PL engagement strategy for building and maintaining relationships with these partners to ensure quality, service, and cost targets are being met.
Assures Delivery Associate compliance with local, state and federal regulatory agencies (i.e. DOT, OSHA, etc.) and ensures that electronic logs are kept current and accurate.
Oversees the proper selection, purchase, and utilization of company assets in support of the Delivery department.
Ensures that management staff is effectively managing the day to day delivery activities, including but not limited to Delivery Associate adherence to standard operating procedures, adherence to planned routes, and providing safe and efficient customer service.
Manages labor hours, travel, fuel, and consumable supplies within budget, maximizing time and cost efficiencies.
Prepares work schedules including extra work days and shifts as needed.
Work Experience/Requirements for This Role
5 years of experience in supply chain management, transportation, economics, business administration, project management, or a similar field (bachelor degree preferred)
2 years experience in DSD environment managing and/or executing planning processes
Proficiency with warehouse procedures and policies
Experience managing teams of full-time and part-time employees
Experience in analyzing metrics and data-driven decision-making
Proficient knowledge of inventory and inventory controls.
Technical and applied understanding of logistics software and warehouse management systems
Provide overall leadership in the areas of operational performance, budget management, customer relations, continuous improvement and staff development.
Schedule
Days: Monday to Friday; Weekends/Holidays as needed
Hours: 8AM to 5PM; additional hours as needed
Work Location: Cicero with travel as needed
