The Transportation Manager- will be responsible and accountable for the day-to-day operations of the Transportation department. She/He will play an integral part in negotiating favorable carrier pricing, evaluating the impact of tariffs and insuring Ice is following state and federal regulatory requirements. The Transportation Manager will create unique customer solutions for freight brokerage for both internal and external customers and will work with the Director of Operations to define future organizational needs and overall vision for the department. Duties will also include performance reporting (customer and management), process mapping and improvement, cost management. This position will work in tandem with Supply Chain department managers and will take an active role in the creation of client business reviews
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:
Develop and maintain relationships with internal and external clients through contact and advocacy by offering advice, solutions, solving problems and issue management. Leverage those relationships to improve overall operations and service.
Negotiates favorable carrier rates for ground, air and international service. Maintains industry knowledge on rate changes and the impact of FedEx and UPS sponsored transportation aggregators.
Develop and implement more efficient procedures to eliminate waste and errors, thereby improving productivity and profits.
Apply knowledge of relevant modes of transportation (LTL, TL, Expedited, Small Parcel, Air, Ocean) to provide client service and innovative solutions.
Manage several customers’ transportation network, proactively identify problems, and mitigate risk.
Establish and develop positive relationships with carriers and design effective solutions to meet client’s needs.
- Requirements: Bachelor’s degree in Transportation/Logistics, Business, Finance, Engineering, or related field in lieu of degree, 10+ years of relevant experience may be considered.
- Minimum of seven years previous experience in transportation/logistics, warehouse management or related operations, 3-4 years of experience in a team leadership capacity.
- Preferred Qualifications: Masters/MBA or other professional certifications
- Bilingual (English/Spanish, English/Chinese)
- Certification in Lean or Continuous Improvement methodologies
