Summary
The Business Development team drives innovation through origination and facilitation of asset growth opportunities for the New York Power Authority. New York Power Authority's ambition to become the first Digital Utility, demonstration of Agility in navigating New York State's climate change laws, flexibility in achieving ISO-55001 certification, and desire to expand the existing asset base through supplemental Generation and Transmission investments presents an opportunity for the Business Development Manager to adapt and grow, while helping to create an innovative and cutting edge asset base of renewable energy supporting investments.
The Transmission EngineerBusiness Development will help to drive New York State's energy policy targets through development of new business opportunities (conceptual engineering, planning, project management). Anticipated workstreams will include development of bulk transmission projects, offshore wind projects, battery storage, and other innovative generation alternatives.
This position can be located in the Albany or White Plains Office.
Responsibilities
  • Perform and coordinate analysis of new opportunities including development of transmission planning studies, transmission siting, and project financials/estimates.
  • Perform associated cartography (mapping) and graphics related to the siting of transmission projects in GIS/KMZ/ or other applicable format
  • Perform economic, quantitative, and statistical analysis to support the assessment of new opportunities.
  • Develop and maintain knowledge of the NYISO markets and FERC transmission proceedings to inform the assessment of new opportunities.
  • Assemble and lead project teams to perform due diligence and/or develop new business opportunities.
  • Assist in the development of the business case for new opportunities including the commercial model, alignment with policy, and identifying key risks.
  • Prepare and make presentations to senior management proposing and providing updates on business opportunities.
  • Support senior Business Development management in negotiations on new opportunities.
  • Be knowledgeable of NYPA procurement processes to acquire resources necessary to identify and develop new projects.
  • Manage the due diligence process by overseeing the valuation analysis process and the identification of sensitivities cpertinent to individual strategic opportunities.
  • Act as a liaison between NYPA management team and project stakeholders for implementation of new projects.
  • Liaise with the management of external parties including developers, transmission owners, NYISO, and regulatory agencies.
  • Provide monthly reports on programs/projects and stakeholder activities to the NYPA management.
  • Participate in industry events, trainings, and conferences, as needed, including NYISO and FERC meetings.
  • Perform other duties as requested by senior Business Development management.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Knowledge and understanding of New York's energy vision through knowledge of the Climate Leadership and Community Protection Act (CLCPA) and subsequently the Accelerated Renewable Energy Growth and Community Benefit Act.
  • Ability to converse and support Transmission Planning through development of scoping documents, review of feasibility studies, and an understanding of the NYISO process(es).
  • Ability to lead transmission development from project origination to siting (physical and regulatory), preparation of financial estimates, and assisting in appropriate regulatory filings.
  • Working knowledge of Google earth and/or Arc GIS systems in creation of maps.
  • Good leadership skills with ability to communicate clear objectives and motivate a team.
  • Advanced communication skills including business writing and oral presentation abilities.
  • Ability to work both independently and in collaborative teams.
  • Good project management skills.
  • Understanding and/or ability to learn the energy industry and NYISO markets.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact effectively with colleagues and external organizations from various cultural backgrounds.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite applications including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Ability to interface and effectively communicate with senior management.
  • Understanding or ability to develop a good understanding of financial and business concepts.
  • Good analytic skills.
Education, Experience and Certifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Economics, Finance, Business Management, Engineering or the equivalent.
  • Advanced degree in Business Administration, Engineeringor related field is preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in the energy industry.
  • Minimum of 3 years of transmission design (transmission planning or physical design)
  • Minimum 1 years of experience with the NYISO electric marketplace is preferred.
  • Minimum of 3 years of project management experience required, PMI certification preferred.
Physical Requirements
  • Valid driver'slicense required.
  • Position requires up to 25% travel, primarily within NY State.
