Translator Supervisor

Job Summary:

The Translator Supervisor supervises, evaluates and monitors the quality of oral interpretations, as well as the preparation of written translations from English to Japanese and Japanese to English, or another language other than English for PENA business leaders. The Translator Supervisor provides technical advice and assists staff with language and vocabulary questions. In addition, the position is responsible for supervising a team of translators providing necessary oral and written language needs for bilingual translation.

Essential Duties:

• Supervise and lead a team of translators/interpreters.
• Establish team structure for translators/interpreters for great efficiency.
• Responsible for talent development of direct reports.
• Interpret between Japanese expats and local staff.
• Provide interpretation for various meetings as well as telephone conferences.
• Translate technical and non-technical documents including policies, instructions and manuals when necessary.
• Monitors and reviews the quality and accuracy of oral and written work of other translators.
• Compose and translate emails, reports etc.
• Required to translate both Japanese to English and English to Japanese.
• Trains interpreters, translators and business leaders via conferences and/or workshops to ensure effective translation services.
• Proficient with proof reading, and editing
• Other duties may assign by management.

Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) Requirements:

• To ensure the health and safety in the workplace and for the protection of our employees, wearing PPE is a requirement for some roles at PENA and may include equipment such as a full Tyvek suit, safety shoes, gloves, safety glasses, face mask, bump cap, and a full hazmat suit that includes a respirator.

Qualifications:  Requirements - Required and/or Preferred

Education:

• Basic/Required:  High School Diploma or GED
• Preferred:  Four-year degree in related translation/ linguist field
• 5 years related job experience
• 1-3 years leadership experience

Essential Qualifications:

• Written and verbal fluency in Japanese and English, excellent communication and writing skills.
• Japanese/ English business language skills.
• Translator / interpreter experience in a business/ technical environment, manufacturing industry preferred.
• Ability to translate quickly and accurately.
• Must have working-level knowledge of the English language, including reading, writing and speaking English.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Access and have the ability to use the computer to complete online learning requirements for -specific competencies, access online forms and policies, complete online benefits enrollment.
• Simultaneous experience is also a plus

Preferred Certification(s):

• Preferably JLPT N2 or higher, English level fluent to native level
  Hiring translator in Japan will require Eiken level 1 or higher, or TOEIC L/R 800 - 850 or higher, and TOEIC S/W 150 or higher
