Form of workTapas Entertainment is seeking a Translation Team Lead based in California with the ability to travel to the El Segundo office space on a semi-regular basis transitioning to hybrid, in the office several days per week. Reporting to the Sr. Manager of Localization, this individual will manage multiple translation projects, bringing them through production and ensuring that all projects are completed on-schedule for digital distribution.
Responsibilities:- Source translation vendors/contractors and serve as liaison between contractors and internal teams
- Be the subject matter expert for the English localization of Korean and Chinese webcomics and webnovels. This includes owning the workflow and tools and ensuring all content meets a high level of quality
- Supervise and support the day-to-day translation workload including but not limited to translating, reviewing, and editing translated works
- Translate emails and other communications from Korean to English
- Regularly work with other teams in both the U.S. and Korea, particularly with Acquisitions and Marketing, lending support to copywriting tasks and coordinating creative requests between international teams
- Be well-read in the Tapas library and own the weekly giftbox, adding titles to recommend to users
- Assess translations provided by vendors
- Provide regular feedback to freelance team members
- Perform other duties as may be assigned by Localization management
- High level proficiency in Korean and English
- Minimum 5+ years of translation experience, ideally with works of fiction
- Minimum 1 year of people management experience, ideally leading and mentoring a large team of freelancers
- Familiarity with CAT tools such as Phrase
- Commitment to building positive work culture and fostering collaboration
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal; ability to articulately present to stakeholders outside the team and organization
- Strict adherence to deadlines, advance planning to efficiently allocate resources
- A love of storytelling and a respect for the storytellers whose work we are helping to share
- Familiarity with CMS and digital platforms such as Slack and Dropbox directly related to publishing workflows and content lifecycle management
- A passion for webcomics is a big plus, as is a love for our storytelling community
