Translation and Documentation Section, Corporate Services Sr. Analyst - Washington, D.C.

About this position

 

We are looking for a dynamic, detailed-oriented, fast-paced professional to work as a quality control translation officer. In the Translation and Documentation Section in the Office of the Secretary. This team is responsible for producing translations of registered documents for the Boards of Governors and Boards of Executive Directors of the IDB and the IIC (including all their committees), as well as for the MIF Donors Committee. Additionally, the Translation and Documentation Section (SEC/TRD) is responsible for classifying, registering, and processing documents sent to the IDB Group's executive decision-making bodies and Management. SEC/TRD retains the IDB Group's registered documents, and all documentation related to the activities of the executive decision-making bodies, until officially archived. It provides reference services related to the distribution of documents and terminological use to Management and the IDB Group. It organizes the Translation and Documentation services for the Bank's Annual Meetings.

 

What you'll do: 

Under the supervision of the Chief of the Translation and Documentation Section, your objectives will be the following:

  1. In direct coordination with the assigned reviser, prepare draft translations of recurrent documents for review and final completion. 
  2. Cross-read and proofread IDB Group translations produced by staff translators, inhouse contractuals, and freelance translators under SEC/TRD. 
  3. Perform detailed quality control of translations of the IDB Group's documents per SEC/TRD guidelines to ensure accuracy and consistency in the Group's four official languages prior to the distribution to the decision-making bodies.
  4. Standardize terminology, query inconsistencies, fill in segments as identified in other documents translated by the Section, extract relevant terminology for future use, and carry out the final quality control of the finished product.
  5. Contribute to special Section projects, including in-house terminology and technical glossaries, the IDB Style Manual, and reference materials.
  6. Align documents using translation memory software. Update the translation memory and terminology databases as needed.
  7. Utilize the appropriate software programs to prepare the layout of IDB Group translations in final form in English, French, Portuguese, and Spanish, according to SEC/TRD standards, as necessary.
  8. Provide guidance and training to new peers and contractuals, helping them understand and develop insight into this functional area.
  9. Identify opportunities to improve processes, workflows, tools, and methodologies in technical area, and propose innovative and insightful solutions based on a compelling business case.
  10. Participate in the dissemination and implementation of policies and procedures.

What you'll need 

  • Education: You have a master's degree in translation, languages, or a language-related field. role. 
  • Experience: You have 2 years of relevant professional experience working with languages, translation, quality control, proofreading, or editing of documents, preferably in an international setting. You are familiar and comfortable using standard automated office systems, CAT tools, databases, and web technologies.
  • Languages:  
    • Proficiency in English, spoken and written, is required.  
    • Proficiency in Spanish, spoken and written, is required. 
    • Additional working knowledge or proficiency in French and/or Portuguese is preferable.  

You must be available to take a written test to assess your ability to demonstrate language fluency, translation aptitude, and quality control skills.

Requirements

  • Citizenship: You are a citizen of one of our 48-member countries. We may offer assistance with relocation and visa applications for you and your eligible dependents.

Type of contract and duration 

  • International staff contract, 36 months initially, renewable upon mutual agreement.
