Training Specialist

The Company:
Pathways Vermont is a dynamic nonprofit agency which believes in transforming the lives of individuals experiencing difficulties and permanently ending homelessness. In addition to our direct service programs, Pathways Vermont operates Vermont’s Peer Workforce Development Initiative (PWDI), funded by an annual grant from the Vermont Department of Mental Health, as well as Pathways Vermont Training Institute, which provides training and technical assistance to a variety of agencies and individuals across the world.

The Role:
The Training Specialist is a full-time position and an integral part of the training team. The Training Specialist will facilitate training opportunities and support with ongoing training development internally at Pathways Vermont as well as for Vermont’s Peer Workforce Development Initiative (PWDI) and Pathways Vermont Training Institute (PVTI). The Training Specialist will also provide administrative and coordination support for internal Pathways training, PWDI, and PVTI.

Job Responsibilities
  • Training Facilitation & Development
    • Facilitate and participate in ongoing development of internal, PWDI, and PVTI trainings, including the following:
      • Conversations About Suicide
      • Autonomy, Choice, & Self-Determination: Harm Reduction
      • Trauma-Informed Approaches
      • Challenging Conversations & Situations
      • Relationship-First Approach
      • Relationship-First Approach to Extreme States
      • Harm Reduction Approach to Psychiatric Drugs
      • Mad Movement Histories
      • Intentional Peer Support (upon becoming a certified trainer)
    • Facilitate IPS Co-Reflection internally at Pathways and through PWDI
  • Administrative & Coordination Support
    • Track and communicate training requirements and completion for Pathways staff (in coordination with HR)
    • Track and respond to inquiries for training and technical assistance
    • Support with scheduling calls/meetings with potential training clients
    • Support with preparing and sending proposals to potential training clients
    • Update and maintain filing systems for training clients on Google Drive
    • Prepare and submit invoices
    • Process expense requests for training and travel expenses
    • Regular participation in Training Committee and Hiring & Retention Committee
    • Plan and coordinate online and in-person training, including scheduling, managing registration, booking venues, creating attendance spreadsheets, creating Zoom links, communicating with training participants, mailing training materials to participants, preparing handouts and other materials, developing proposals, and invoicing
    • Support with booking travel and accommodations for in-person training, events, and conferences
    • Order and organize training supplies as needed
  • Occasional ability to work outside regular office hours as needed
  • Other work as assigned

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Certified Intentional Peer Support organizational trainer

Required Qualifications:
  • Lived experience with mental health challenges, substance use challenges, homelessness, and/or other life challenges, and a willingness to support others utilizing a “peer” model of service
  • Ability to share from one’s own personal transformative experiences
  • Intentional Peer Support Core training
  • Understanding and commitment to the values and programs of Pathways Vermont
  • Patience, creativity, flexibility, compassion, and sensitivity to persons with disabilities and other marginalized populations
  • Experience in various facilitation styles including lecture, small group discussion, individual coaching, etc.
  • Comfort and expertise in public speaking and conducting presentations
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to sit with the discomfort of facilitating learning for diverse audiences
  • Willingness to practice humility and curiosity
  • Willingness to participate in continuous feedback processes and adjust communication and training styles and approaches as needed
  • Telephone/computer/internet/social media skills and familiarity with Google and Zoom platform
  • Self-motivation and ability to work independently
  • Ability to work during non-standard hours
  • Flexible schedule and extensive travel potentially required
  • Vermont Resident
  • Valid driver's license and access to vehicle required


Working Conditions/Physical Demands:
  • Sitting or standing for sustained periods of time during presentations
  • Frequent operation of a computer and other office machinery including frequent typing
  • Frequent talking and listening in participation of exchanging ideas through spoken word and receipt and giving of detailed information through oral communication
  • The worker is subject to various environmental conditions. Activities occur inside and outside.
  • Ability to utilize various modes of transportation (bus, train, plane, etc.)

Compensation:
  • Full-time, non-exempt, salary
  • 35-40 hours per week, occasional weeknights and weekends as needed
  • $50-55,000 annually (starting pay determined by starting pay matrix)
