Job Summary
The Instructional Design & Training Producer will help our team continuously improve the quality and impact of our learning content and instructional design across new and existing courses.
This position is responsible for design and Development of learning experiences for RailPros employees and customers (internal and external products). This person collaborates with subject matter experts and customers to assess developmental needs and identify suitable training solutions, then works with the team to produce and implement the solutions.
As part of the RailPros Training and Development team, the Instructional Design & Training Producer will create training for both eLearning and Instructor-led products. Training type is generally safety Training and technical skills training. Content is developed using various instructional methodologies and treatments.
RailPros training products often make heavy use of multi-media assets and technology, and as such, this position is responsible for managing the production and implementation of media assets used for training. This position actively searches, creatively designs, and implements effective methods to educate, enhance performance, assess and recognize performance.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Apply adult learning principles and instructional design best practices to create engaging learning activities and compelling course content material/media (audio, video, simulations, games etc.)
- Own the end-to-end design and Development of learning content, including modes of assessment to measure the effectiveness and application of training.
- Design learning that reflects an understanding of the diversity of learning styles to ensure that learning solutions resonate with increasingly diverse audience.
- Collaborate with subject matter experts to identify training needs/ knowledge gaps
- Suggest curriculum-based recommendations based on requirements analysis
- State instructional end goals and create content to match.
- Help write Project Proposals, to include Project Scope, Design Plan, timelines and budgets
- Develop training deliverables/ collateral in part or in full for multiple projects, including Training Design Documents, ILT Instructor Guides, Student Workbooks, Exams, presentations, eLearning storyboards, eLearning modules/ programs, and surveys.
- Work with a team to create supporting material/media, including (audio, video, animations, simulations, role plays, games, etc).
- Provide exercises and activities that enhance the learning process.
- Decide on the criteria used to judge learner’s performance and develop assessment instruments.
- Maintain project documentation and course folders.
- Administers spending against the departmental/ project budget.
- Conduct follow-up studies of all completed training to evaluate and measure results.
- Modify/ revise programs as needed.
- Other duties as assigned or required to meet the business needs.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
- Knowledge and understanding of adult learning theory and instructional design methodologies for classroom-based, self-guided, and virtual training
- Experience working with e-learning development tools (Articulate, Captivate, etc.)
- Proficiency in Microsoft Powerpoint
- Partnering effectively with others to achieve results
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to proofread work of self, and others, to improve quality, consistency, and readability
- Ability to write effective copy, instructional text, audio scripts/video scripts
- Highly proficient in time management, organization, planning and prioritization
- Proficiency with electronic communications including e-mail and text as well as standard office applications (i.e., Microsoft Office Suite)
Required Education and Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Communications, Instructional Design, or relevant field.
- 4+ years’ experience designing and implementing employee development programs (or similar experience).
Preferred Education and Experience
- HTML5 competency
- Experience in railroad or similar industry
- Experience with media production
- Experience working within a Learning Management System (LMS)
Additional Qualifications, Certifications, etc.
- Certified Professional in Learning and Performance (CPLP) credential preferred.
- SHRM Certified Professional (SHRM-CP) or SHRM Senior Certified Professional (SHRM-SCP) credential preferred.
