Summary:
Manage and coordinate the day-to-day activities associated with trailer production with direct reports in both production and supporting departments. Responsible for developing a safe and efficient workplace that allows Trailer to meet or exceed customer and management expectations.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Understand monthly and annual build plans and work with the Master Scheduler and GM to create daily/weekly/monthly objectives to achieve those plans.
- With the GM, identify the Key Performance Indicators (KPI’s) for each area in the department and monitor performance against the developed objectives. Effectively communicate performance to cross-functional team as well as Management. Review KPI’s periodically to ensure they are relevant and effective in managing the business.
- Assign and direct daily activities of Trailer Supervisors and direct reports to ensure adherence to departmental objectives.
- Facilitate meetings with cross-functional teams to review trailers before, during, and after builds to identify quality or build risks and capture ideas for improvements. Document results and communicate with appropriate groups across the company.
- Must understand Lean principles and be willing to implement them where appropriate. Actively lead discussions with Trailer Supervisors to identify and implement ideas that improve labor utilization, quality, efficiency, and information sharing during the build process.
- Assess skills and performance of Trailer Supervisors and other direct reports to provide coaching and/or identify training needs for employee development.
- Address questions, concerns, and/or disputes with direct reports. Lead in hiring, training, evaluating, and/or discipline of direct reports.
- Work effectively with Truck Division to identify efficiencies and opportunities for cross-training and sharing resources. Bring the cohesion to the production departments and build a “one team” mentality.
- Complete and deliver annual performance reviews for any direct reports.

Education/Experience:
Associate or Bachelor's degree; 7-10 years of experience leading people in a heavy manufacturing environment, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Language Ability:
Ability to read and comprehend part prints, written instructions, correspondence, and emails. Ability to lead large, cross-functional, team meetings and effectively present relevant information.
Math Ability:
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to interpret graphical information.
Reasoning Ability:
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, graphical, or schedule form.
Computer Skills:
Microsoft Operating Systems and Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc) as well as ERP Systems
People Responsibilities:
Directly manages 3-5 supervisors in the Trailer Production Department. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
