Traffic Operator

Overview
Colliers Engineering & Design, is seeking a full-time Traffic Operator to join our Transportation Management team in NYC-metro region at the JFK Airport Operations Center (AOC) as part of our growing team with a backlog full of exciting projects on some of the most iconic transportation facilities in the country.
The selected candidate will have the unique opportunity to serve as a Traffic Operator at an on-site Transportation Management Center (TMC) for one of the region's premier aviation facilities, with the ability to observe and track real-time traffic conditions to aid in coordinating active transportation management solutions to keep the landside roadway networking moving and enhance the customer experience.
Position offers unique ability to work collaboratively in a dynamically changing landscape with internal stakeholders, senior leadership, first responders and law enforcement, and other partner agencies creating an invigorating career opportunity.
The shift availability for this position is either the Overnight Shift (anticipated work hours are tentatively from 9PM - 7AM) or the AM Shift (4AM - 2PM) with four (4) 10-hour shifts per week.
Responsibilities

• Actively monitoring, detecting, documenting, mitigating, and regularly disseminating information about traffic conditions to effectively maintain the transportation system through a host of events, both planned and unplanned, to airport stakeholders.
• Interfacing with ITS devices such as Dynamic Message Signs (DMS)/Variable Message Signs (VMS), Closed-Circuit TV (CCTV) cameras, and traffic signal systems.
• Identifying and reporting potential road hazards, signal timing, construction activities, or traffic patterns that impede optimal traffic flow.
• Gathering information from multiple sources, dashboards, and data analytics tools to make informed decisions and evaluate cause/effect relationship of actions taken.
• Monitoring the traffic operations email inbox and replying to messages as necessary.
• Preparing an end of shift report that summarizes the shift operational period.
• Adherence to established SOPs and guidelines for conduct in the JFK AOC.
• Contributing equally to off-hour shifts or remote on-call support when needed in times of high volume, inclement weather, etc.
• Establishing and maintaining positive relationships with co-workers, supervisors, clients, and colleagues.

Qualifications

• 0-5 years of Traffic Engineering/Traffic Operations-related experience.
• Bachelor's degree in civil engineering is a plus.
• Knowledge of Traffic Engineering/Traffic Operations principles and regional transportation system/stakeholders.
• Familiarity with MUTCD and other transportation publications.
• Basic knowledge of data analytics to help make data driven decisions.
• Understanding of aviation terminology and passenger and vehicular activity characteristics is a plus.
• Strong computer skills including proficiency in Microsoft Office.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team (i.e. collaborate, contribute, and respect others) to perform tasks effectively under pressure.
• Act with professional demeanor and positive attitude.
• Willingness to work on-site, in-person as part of TMC team with schedule flexibility including the ability to contribute equally working one day of the weekend weekly and holidays (as needed) on a rotating basis with the rest of the team.
• Possess a strong work ethic, good communication skills, attention to detail, effective time management, good organizational skills, and exhibit an eagerness to learn.
• Valid driver's license.

Compensation: $32/HR. DOQ.
