Job description

  • Traffic Control Technician Set up and maintain Traffic Control for a variety of Traffic Control set ups including flagging operations and lane closures according to Texas Manual for TMUTCD (Texas Manual on Traffic Control Devices) and assist in the placement, moving, and dismantling of signs, barricades, cones and other Traffic Control devices.
  • Training provided for flagger/workzone certifications.
  • Set up a safe work zone with all necessary cones, barrels, barricades etc.
  • Use stop and slow paddles to control the flow of traffic and perform lane closures.
  • Effective communication with your co-workers to conduct the flow of traffic.
  • Maintain all work areas, vehicles and work sites in a neat and orderly fashion
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Traffic Control Supervisor
  • Follow all safety rules and regulations and wear proper safety equipment (work boots – with safety toe, hard hat and safety vest)
  • Adhere to all Company Policies and Procedures
  • This is an outdoor position, and you will work in all weather conditions.
  • All candidates MUST submit to a pre-employment drug screen and background check.
  • Texas Driver’s License/ID required that meets Nixon Engineering company guidelines to be considered for promotions.

HIRING IMMEDIATELY for part-time flaggers for Traffic Control operations

Set out signs and cones around work areas to divert traffic.
Flag motorists to warn them of obstacles or repair work ahead.
Perform preventative maintenance on vehicles and heavy equipment.
Drive trucks to transport crews and equipment to work sites.
Erect, install, or repair guardrails, road shoulders, berms, highway
markers, warning signals, and highway lighting, using hand tools and
power tools.

Must have valid Texas Driver License or Texas ID
Drug test required
Must have steel toed boots and a smart phone.
Must be able to stand for long periods of time.
Must provide social security card and Texas ID/DL (hard copies only) at
training with employer.

TMA Drivers

Essential Duties and Functions

* Maintain Traffic Controls around all assigned work zones; report any
problems to the Crew Chief or Manager.
* Responsible for understanding general work flow patterns in work zones
and ensuring proper protocol and traffic requirements are followed and
discussed with foreman/supervisor.
* Assist in the placement, moving and dismantling of signs, barricades,
cones and other Traffic Control devices.
* Direct movement of traffic through work zone, using sign, hand and
flag signals.
* Inform construction workers when approaching vehicle fails to heed
signals to prevent accident and injury to anyone.
* Inform drivers of detour routes around construction sites.
* Follow direction of Crew Chief as to daily tasks and expectations for
each specific project or jobsite.
* In compliance with all safety policies and procedures using the
appropriate equipment and PPE for the task.
* Properly follow all company policies and regulations for safe working
procedures and environment.
* Be kind and courteous to the traveling public, pedestrians, and
co-workers.
* Regular and predictable attendance at assigned times is required.
* Flexibility to perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
* To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to
perform each essential duty satisfactorily, attend and pass a four (4)
hour
Certification seminar, paid for by employer at nearby location.
* Previous related experience in the field is preferred.

Work Requirements
* Must be at least 18 years of age due to the nature of working
environment.
* Valid Texas Driver's License and no more than 3 moving violations
within past 3 years.
* NO DWI or DUI on driving record in past 5 years.
* Must display a professional and courteous attitude to co-workers,
supervisors, and the general public at all times.
* Strict adherence to safety requirements and procedures as outlined in
the Employee Handbook.
* Report to the assigned job site in uniform and ready to begin work at
the designated start time.
* Individuals are required to wear personal protective equipment (PPE)
in designated operations and production areas.
* PPE that may be required, but not limited to, are: Hard toe safety
shoes and work pants; employer will provide Safety Vest and Hard Hat.
* Willingness to work in a team environment and assist co-workers and/or
supervisors with other duties as required.
* Willing to travel and work away from home when required.
* Must have the ability to work without close supervision.
* Must have smartphone with internet access.

Knowledge/Skill Requirements
* Ability to meet attendance schedule with dependability and
consistency.
* Ability to work independently and complete daily activities according
to work schedule.
* Knowledge and/or previous related experience in work/construction
zones and/or Traffic Control preferred.

Physical Requirements
The physical demands described here are representative of those that
must be met by an employee to successfully perform essential functions
of this job.
* Required to stand for long periods of time, repetitively hold signs
and/or flags, repeated use, raise arms to chest height to direct
traffic.
* Able to stand, walk, use hands and fingers to manipulate objects,
climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, talk and hear.
* Vision abilities (with correction) include close, distance,
peripheral, depth, and the ability to adjust focus.
* Ability to perform strenuous work in varying weather conditions.
* The employee must occasionally lift and/or move anywhere up to 50 lbs.

Work Environment
* The employee is exposed to moving mechanical parts; high precarious
places; outside weather conditions; and moving vehicles.
* The noise level in some areas of the work environment may be loud, but
is typically moderate.

Background requirements: Background check; candidates with criminal
background are handled on case by case basis.

Crew Lead

Safely direct and control the movement of vehicular traffic through
construction projects following safety protocol while properly
maintaining all equipment while following directives.

Duties and Responsibilities:

* Work with crew chief to safely and appropriately set up work-zones
in accordance with state or local Department of Transportation and
Safety policies and procedures.
* Report to work timely.
* Read, understand and follow Traffic Controls' safety policies and
crew leader's instruction.
* Placement of Traffic Control devices, signs, and markers in
compliance with work zone diagrams.
* Maintain safety zone while directing movement of vehicular traffic
through work zone using sign, hand, and flag signals.
* Wear and maintain safety gear at all times.
* Ensure customer's workers are warned of any impending work zone
violation if incoming vehicle does not adhere to work zone.
* Provide clear concise information about detour routes through work
zone.
* Keep record of any vehicles not following signage protocol for report
to police.
* Follow crew leader instructions for one-way traffic when full lane
closure is in force.
* Be aware your surroundings at all time focusing on safety and
determine if addition safety measures should be applied even when not
outlined in the safety manual
* Report all safety concerns to crew chiefs and managers
* Ensure all safety equipment, vehicles, lights, signs and company
owned property is handled in a safe careful manner.
* Other duties may be assigned.

Essential Qualifications:

* Reliable transportation and Driver's License
* Must pass drug test/background check
* Able to read and comprehend instructions, short correspondence and
memos

* Dependable and able to commit to long hours of work when necessary

required to stand; walk; reach with hands and arms and talk or hear. The
employee is frequently required to stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The

employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific

vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to
adjust focus.
