The Fikes Companies is now hiring a Commodity Trader/Scheduler to join their team in Temple, Texas!
The Commodity Trader/Scheduler is responsible for the Company’s hedging functions and midstream inventory. This person will be responsible for:
- Executing various petroleum related commodity trades that mitigate price risk and lock in profitable margins for FIKES Terminal Supply.
- Adhering to the Company's risk policy while balancing physical inventory to hedged positions.
- Bulk sales and must be able to forecast and sell length, communicate and negotiate with buyers, and calculate mark-to-market positions and bulk trade profit/loss.

General Responsibilities:
Trading:
- Balances physical positions to hedged positions daily.
- Executes and records daily commodity trades.
- Calculates profit/loss for each terminal daily.
- Maintains relationships with brokers.
- Expands risk management initiatives for refined fuels products.
- Proposes and facilitates trading plans that capitalize on market and pricing trends.
- Assesses price risk by building models/studies based on fundamental and technical analysis.
- Recognizes supply disruptions and proposes trades to mitigate hedge and physical risks.
- Participates in setting strategic plan for supply.
- Monitors short-term news flow relevant to commodities and major price movements across markets.
- Forecasts, procures, and schedules bulk purchases to maintain optimal inventory levels.
- Identifies and executes buying strategies to reduce cost-of-goods.
- Manages transport logistics utilizing pipeline nominations, truck & other forms of shipping.
- Audits supplier & transport invoices in accordance with departmental processes.
- Publishes scheduled reports covering all physical positions held.
- Identifies growth opportunities to expand midstream activities and present to the Director.
- BS degree in Finance, Business, or other related discipline.
- 2+ years total experience in energy industry, specifically fuel distribution, fuel pricing, and fuel transportation, with some prior trading experience in domestic physical petroleum products market(s).
- Proficiency with index pricing (OPIS, PLATTS, ARGUS), spot pricing, US cash market, US inventories, and basis/basis impact.
- Possess working knowledge of pipeline logistics
- Strong understanding of math, probability, and statistics.
- Proven negotiation skills.
- Must have strong work ethic and be able to learn quickly in a fast paced, high-pressure environment.
- Detail oriented, organized, diligent.
- Maintain composure and communicate clearly when under pressure.
- Advanced MS Office Suite – including Excel.
