TPWD MISSION
To manage and conserve the natural and cultural resources of Texas and to provide hunting, fishing and outdoor recreation opportunities for the use and enjoyment of present and future generations.

GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
Under the direction of the Park Superintendent, this position is responsible for complex (journey-level) maintenance and construction supervisory work including management of the maintenance team and other alternative workforce and/or volunteers. Duties include training staff, TDCJ crew, other alternative workforce and/or volunteers. Ensures safety and natural/cultural resource protection guidelines are followed. Coordinates work with TDCJ Officer, volunteers, park and regional staff. Responsible for daily and long-term project plans, including progress reports and estimates. Coordinates purchasing of material and equipment needs. Maintains equipment and tools, and submits required reports. Assists with park operations tasks including maintenance of facility, equipment and grounds and customer service as needed. Works under general supervision, with moderate latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment Performs additional duties as assigned. Complies with all Agency, Division and branch rules, regulations and procedures.
Qualifications:
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education:
Graduation from High School or GED.
Experience:
Three years facility, equipment or grounds maintenance experience;
Two years experience as a supervisor or team leader, which may include oversight of paid staff, volunteers, or alternative workforces.
NOTE: Experience may have occurred concurrently.
Licensure:
Must possess a valid class "A" Texas Commercial driver's license OR must possess or be able to obtain, within 30 days of employment, a valid class "C" Texas driver's license and convert to a class "A" Commercial driver's license within 6 months of employment;
Required to successfully pass the air brake component of a class "A" Commercial driver's license standard examination.
NOTE: Retention of position is contingent upon obtaining and maintaining required licenses and compliance with State and Federal regulations including the Department of Transportation (DOT) required drug and alcohol testing.
Must possess or be able to obtain within one year of employment, a Non-Commercial Political Subdivision Applicators license issued by the Texas Department of Agriculture;
Must possess or be able to obtain within one year of employment, a class "D" Water and Wastewater license issued by the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ).
NOTE: Retention of position contingent upon obtaining and maintaining required licenses.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Experience:
Experience in supervision or leading others;
Experience working with the public.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Knowledge of park operations and maintenance practices;
Knowledge of general custodial duties;
Knowledge of basic plumbing, carpentry and electrical repairs to buildings, facilities and grounds;
Knowledge of basic natural and cultural resource management principles;
Knowledge of basic mathematics;
Skill in using MS Word, Excel and Outlook;
Skill in effective verbal and written communication;
Skill in using standard office equipment;
Skill in basic report writing and developing and maintaining records;
Skill in using hand and power tools, mowers, trimmers, chain saws, tractors, vehicles, generators and other mechanical equipment;
Skill in providing quality customer service in a courteous and professional manner;
Skill in establishing and maintaining effective work relationships with co-workers and work-related contacts;
Skill in revenue collection
Skill in making independent, sound and timely decisions;
Skill in planning, assigning and/or supervising the work of others;
Skill in training others;
Ability to uniformly and consistently interpret and assist in enforcing park rules and regulations in a fair and consistent manner;
Ability to work as a member of a team;
Ability to work independently with little or no supervision;
Ability to work under stressful conditions;
Ability to handle complaints and emergencies;
Ability to perform manual labor including, lifting supplies and materials up to 50 lbs.;
Ability to conduct work activities in accordance with TPWD safety program.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Required to work in a public park with overnight camping and day use;
Required to work 40 hours per week with hours other than 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and days off other than Saturdays, Sundays and holidays;
Required to respond to emergencies and on-call situations;
Required to adjust to changing schedules;
Required to perform manual labor including, lifting supplies and materials up to 50 lbs.;
Required to perform work outdoors, occasionally in adverse weather conditions;
Required to travel 5% with possible overnight stays;
Required to operate State vehicle;
Required to pass drug screening prior to employment;
Required to pass a previous employment drug testing history verification for all CDL positions held within the past two years;
Subject to random, post-accident and reasonable cause testing for the duration of employment;
Required to live on-site in State housing with a monthly deduction of 193.71. Housing rate is established by TPWD policy, calculated using federal guidelines, and may change according to market value;
Non-smoking environment in State buildings, housing and vehicles.
