Job Description

POSITION TITLE: Managerof Tourism Promotion

REPORTS TO: President & Chief Executive Officer

POSITION FUNCTION: To plan and promote the continued growth of Chemung County’s tourism industry and develop and implement short-and long-term tourism marketing strategies for the community that will result in the expansion of this sector of the County’s economy.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:

Promotion

Responsible for the leadership and management of the Chemung County tourism promotion program, supporting its mission to market and brand the county as a viable destination in the Southern Finger Lakes.

· Develop a close working relationship with local tourism partners to encourage cross-promotion of Chemung County’s tourism attributes.

· Coordinate and support regional marketing initiatives with Finger Lakes Wine Country, Finger Lakes Farm Country, Finger Lakes Regional Tourism Council New York State, and more.

· Serve as the Chemung County TPA on the Board of Directors of the Finger Lakes Regional Tourism Council.

· Promote Chemung County among travel writers, working with them to create custom itineraries and accompanying them throughout their visits.

· Oversee the development and distribution of the annual Chemung County Visitors Guide, and additional brochures used to promote local tourism.

· Work with outside contractor to maintain a current calendar of events for the Chamber’s tourism website.

· Stay abreast of current trends in the travel industry.

· Promote Chemung County through various social media outlets.

Administrative

· Provide professional and administrative staff support for the Chamber’s Convention and Visitors Bureau, scheduling and following-up with regular meetings and working with the Chair to set agendas.

· Develop and implement pro-active short and long-range tourism.

· Interact with local, regional, and state tourism representatives, interests, officials, and agencies to plan tourism programs, activities and initiatives.

· Administer all aspects of the New York State I Love NY Matching Funds Grant, including applications, marketing purchase approvals, budget and ongoing reports.

· Respond to tourism inquiries from email, walk-in or phone.

· Work with other groups and organizations to plan and coordinate tourism programs and activities to promote Chemung County.

· Create and distribute relevant press releases.

· Have a solid background in social media marketing, including managing Facebook, Instagram, and TikTok

· Create engaging social media posts, reels, stories and videos that influence behavior using graphical elements and impactful marketing copy.

· Write a monthly tourism update for the Chamber newsletter.

· Support and actively participate in ongoing Chamber events and fundraisers.

· Contribute as a team member to the Chamber’s daily operations, as needed.

· Have knowledge of and experience with Photoshop and or Canva. WordPress experience a plus.

· Work with Chamber President to complete room tax grant application, and various reports to fulfill the Chamber’s role as the designated Tourism Promotion Agency (TPA) for Chemung County.

· Work with the Chamber President to communicate with the Chemung County Executive and Legislature to keep them abreast of the Chamber’s tourism promotional efforts and secure annual funding.

EDUCATION

Bachelor’s Degree in Marketing, Tourism or related field. Associate Degree with relevant experience may also be considered.

SALARY RANGE

$42,000-$46,000, as determined per experience. This position is eligible for benefits to include 401k, medical/life/disability insurance options, PTO accruals, Holidays, and more. The Chemung County Chamber of Commerce is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
