LEGAL DEPARTMENT

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
The OCA seeks a skilled, energetic, team-oriented Paralegal who is self-motivated and can work independently on various complex paralegal assignments with the attorneys in the Torts and Civil Rights Section.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Performs investigative functions and research legal issues in preparation for court cases.
- Assisting attorneys in responding to discovery, ordering records, e-filing and e-serving in state and federal courts.
- Maintaining attorney calendars and schedules; working with court staff to obtain hearing dates and trial schedules.
- Performs confidential and sensitive assignments for the City Attorney and other attorneys.
- Performs other administrative or paralegal responsibilities as assigned, including organizing files, electronically maintained.
This position is physically comfortable; the individual has discretion about walking, standing, etc. There are no major sources of discomfort in a normal office environment.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
EXPERIENCE:
PREFERENCES
Preference will be given to candidates with:
- Excellent organizational and analytical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple projects and competing priorities/deadlines.
- Experience working with multiple attorneys.
- Strong drafting research and writing skills.
- The ability to develop and package high quality written communications that are clear, concise, and well organized.
- Must be willing to work extended hours as needed to accommodate case load demands.
- Ability to work under pressure and without close supervision, and to independently produce error-free documents.
- Advanced level or higher proficiency in the use of Office 365 suite, including Excel, PowerPoint, OneDrive, and SharePoint, and have the ability to quickly grasp specialized software programs.

SALARY INFORMATION
Factors used in determining the salary offered include the candidate’s qualifications as well as the pay rates of other employees in this classification.
Pay Grade: 12
Salary Range: $33,878 to $62,500
