Job Description
Summary
This position is reporting to the Plant Manager which includes supervising and coordinate the Tool Shop activities. This position will also be responsible for providing leadership, direction and administering of the apprenticeship program.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned as apparent or required by management.
Prepares, initiates, and processes all spare parts and work orders in the Tool Shop.
Processes and orders all related materials, tools and supplies needed to complete assigned tasks.
Organizes the outsourcing of appropriate jobs to approved outside vendors that are unable to be processed in-house due to time or ability.
Provide specialist technical advice and support on all aspects of Tool design, manufacturing and estimating.
Support production and engineering with tooling/technical problems. Supervise/Manage the running and plan activities of the Tool-shop facilities and toolmakers, ensuring the tool room is a safe environment in line with health, safety and environmental requirements. Supports Production and Engineering to manage and guarantee on time availability of tools to ensure continuous production and increase of OEE (Overall Equipment Effectiveness)
Coordinates the apprenticeship program, including projects, tests, learning objectives, daily work load, and college classes. Serves as a coach and mentor to the Apprentices.
Participates in Catawba Apprenticeship Network program duties, including high school recruiting, open houses, job fairs, orientation, graduation, partner meetings, and public presentations.
Participates and organizes safety related objectives for the facility for and through the companywide Safety Committee Team.
Assists in machining and processing work orders as needed.
Responsible for tracking, compiling and evaluating spare parts and work order data, descriptions, hours, and quantities for quoting and accounting analysis requirements.
Develop, implement and manage key performance indicators (KPIs) for each area of responsibility. Ensure Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) are met by working to the overall plan, including management of, and reporting. Set department objectives/KPIs and review and assess ongoing performance of direct reports.
Forecasts operating costs of department and directs preparation of budget requests.
Advises management of new developments which may affect profit, schedule, costs, customer relations, and/or inter-departmental relations.
Supervisory Responsibilities
Directly supervises up to 20 employees in the Tool Shop and apprentices. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Education and/or Experience
Bachelor's degree in a Mechanical Science from a four-year college or university; and one to two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Other Qualifications
CAD-CAM programming experience.
Advanced milling, turning, EDM and/or mold making experience.
Ability to read blue prints.
Previous supervisory experience preferred.
