Job Summary
Advanced expertise in Tissue Typing testing to include all duties listed in Immunology Standard Operating Procedures. Expertly understands theories and principals involved in the performance of all procedures. Leads projects and process improvement initiatives. Responsible for overall quality, efficiency, and safety in the performance of assigned technical duties.
Essential Functions
- Fully cross-trained and demonstrates proficiency in all Flow and HLA testing procedures and policies by adherence to quality assurance guidelines for equipment and work area, documenting corrective action to any non-conforming event.
- Maintains clear, real-time communications shift-to-shift with co-leadership regarding issues, concerns and problems which affect the operations of the department. Identifies and implements solutions to minimize operational roadblocks.
- Participates as a Flow and HLA trainer.
- Participates in preparations for lab inspections
- Consistently serves as charge or team leader function
- Serves as a competency assessor during training.
- Participates as trainer and competency assessor.
- Coordinates training session and provides training
- Participates in quality assurance program.
- Participates in variance documentation in the department and reports findings to leader.
- Translates all concepts and facts clearly in both verbal and written form.
Physical Requirements
Long periods of sitting during analytical procedures. Long periods of standing during harvest procedures. Manual dexterity. Works in an area which contains biohazardous (infectious) materials along with chemical, fire, and mechanical hazards. Each employee has the responsibility to work in a safe manner. May be required to stoop, reach, and lift light (20 pound) to moderately heavy (50 pound) loads.
Education, Experience and Certifications
ABHI-registered histocompatibility specialist AND ASCP-registered Flow Specialist (SCYM) with a BS in Biology. 5 years' experience in both clinical lab areas of HLA and Flow required. Completion of all requirements specified under Tissue Typing Specialist III.
