POSITION SUMMARY
The mission of The Village Centers and The Village Thrift Shop is to enhance the lives of adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) and support them in reaching their full potential. We are seeking a motivated and enthusiastic Sales Associate to join our Thrift Store team. The Village Thrift Shop is open Monday – Saturday from 9:00 am – 5:00 pm. Under the supervision and direction of the Store Manager and Assistant Store Manager, key responsibilities of the Sales Associate include assisting customers, operating the POS system, ensuring the sales floor is well-maintained and organized, and assisting with item pickups/deliveries.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILTIES
- Greet customers warmly, assist them in finding items, and provide product information as needed. Address customer inquiries and concerns in a courteous and professional manner.
- Operate cash registers and process transactions accurately and efficiently. Handle cash, credit, and debit card payments, and reconcile cash drawer at the end of each day.
- Assist with item pickups and deliveries. Drive box truck when needed.
- Maintain a neat, organized, and visually appealing sales floor. Arrange merchandise displays, replenish stock, and ensure products are properly tagged and priced.
- Assist in receiving, moving, sorting, and pricing donated items.
- Work closely with team members to achieve sales targets and deliver exceptional customer service. Communicate effectively with colleagues and management regarding customer feedback, inventory needs, and operational issues.
- Actively promote store events, sales, and promotions to customers. Participate in community outreach efforts and represent the store positively.
- Other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION, SKILLS, AND EXPERIENCE
- A desire to serve others and contribute to the mission of The Village Centers and The Village Thrift Shop
- Previous retail or customer service experience preferred
- High School Diploma or GED required
- Valid driver’s license required
- Basic math skills and proficiency in operating cash registers/POS systems
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment
- An insurance accepted driving record
- Required to pass a background check and drug test
PHYSICAL DEMANDS (related to donation pickups)
- Able to lift 35 lbs repeatedly
- Able to be in prolonged hot and/or cold weather
- Kneeling, squatting, crawling, and stooping
- Prolonged periods of walking, standing, sitting, lifting, pushing, pulling
Job Type: Part-time
Pay: $11.00 - $12.00 per hour
Expected hours: 20 – 30 per week
