Thrift Store Manager (Temp To Hire)

THRIFT STORE MANAGER POSITION SUMMARY:

The Thrift Store Manager provides supervision, oversight and management of the URM Thrift Boutique Store operations to generate revenues which support agency administration & programs. Manages staff and volunteers, oversees sales, merchandise pricing, financial & merchandise donations, promotion of the store in the community, and internal fiscal controls.

THRIFT STORE MANAGER CORE WORK PRINCIPLE:

THRIFT STORE MANAGER ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

• Responsible for all store merchandising, sorting, pricing and inventory control.
• Responsible for daily cash handling, credit card transactions and bookkeeping including night drop deposits.
• Responsible for operating within budget to meet guidelines and store expenses.
• Actively engage customers on sales floor to increase donations and merchandise sales to ensure monthly revenue goals are met.
• Provide excellent customer service by greeting and assisting customers and donors and responding to customer inquiries/complaints. To promote repeat business.
• Business development (analyze sales and current inventory, provide projections, and make recommendations to retain customers and increase sales).
• Provide reports as needed and/or requested.
• Oversee donations process to include acceptance of donations, in-kind donation forms, and scheduling pick-up of donated items.
• Ensures physical maintenance, cleanliness and attractiveness of store and displays.
• Enforce and maintain safety and cleanliness as well as all health and security policies and procedures.
• Ensure compliance with all City, County, State and Federal requirements.
• Travel, as needed.
• Conducts other tasks and projects as assigned by the Director of Retail Operations.

THRIFT STORE MANAGER SUPERVISORY DUTIES:

• Interviewing, hiring, and training employees, volunteers, and CLDP staff.
• Planning, scheduling, assigning, and directing work.
• Coaching and managing performance.
• Rewards and recognition.
• Addressing complaints and resolving problems.

THRIFT STORE MANAGER PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

• Must be able to lift 50 lbs.
• Ability to operate a pallet jack and forklift.
• Requires manual dexterity for regular repetitive finger motion and frequently reaching, pulling, pushing and lifting of objects and operating equipment.
• Requires regular standing, walking, sitting, crouching, stooping, speaking, hearing and seeing.
• May be exposed to handling hazardous materials such as broken glass.

THRIFT STORE MANAGER WORK ENVIRONMENT:

• The office is clean, orderly, properly lit, and ventilated.
• Noise levels are considered low to moderate.
• This position works predominantly indoors in a store, warehouse, or dock environment all of which are high traffic settings involving people, equipment and/or machinery.
• May be exposed to dust in the performance of certain duties.
• May be exposed to extreme temperatures both hot and cold (variable weather).

THRIFT STORE MANAGER EXPERIENCE, EDUCATION AND LICENSURES:

• Minimum of 5 years’ prior management experience in a retail or THRIFT STORE environment.
• Must have a valid driver’s license and the ability to be added to the company auto policy.

THRIFT STORE MANAGER KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

• Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
• Fluency in Spanish, both verbal and written, a plus.
• Must have very strong customer service skills.
• Must have working knowledge of Microsoft Office.
• Must have excellent organization and time management skills.
• Must be detail oriented.
• Must be able to multi-task in a high volume environment.
• Ability to operate a pallet jack and forklift.
• Must have the ability to effectively interact with the Union Rescue Mission Board of Directors and Senior Leadership Team.
• Must be able to be an effective team member and handle project leadership responsibility.
