Responsibilities
Director of Outpatient Services
SUMMARY STATEMENT & PURPOSE
The Clinical Therapist, working within a bio-psychosocial model, provides the following clinical services functions: psycho-social assessments, basic consultation, information on mental health issues, psycho-education, complete specialized clinical services for patients/families receiving care, crisis intervention, short term supportive family and individual therapy, group therapy, Substance Use Disorder (SUD) evaluations, and discharge planning. The Clinical Therapist uses evidence based practices in assisting patients achieve their optimal level of mental and emotional health.
All employees are expected to be pleasant, respectful, and courteous in all interactions with patients, families, staff, and visitors of the Hospital, as well as being a positive representative of INBH at all times.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Master's degree from an accredited college or university in social work preferred; mental health field
  • Licensed Mental Health Counselor/Associate Certification or equivalent such as Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker or Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist.
  • Must qualify as a Mental Health Professional in State of Washington.
  • Direct experience in individual and family group therapies, crisis intervention, and treatment planning.
  • Current BLS, First Aid, Handle with Care, and Verbal De-Escalation certification, provided by INBH.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Preferred three (3) years, post-Master's experience in a psychiatric health care setting.
  • Active Chemical Dependency Professional/Trainee license.

Qualifications
SPECIFIC PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES
All functions are essential functions unless otherwise noted.
The job functions of this position are not limited to the duties listed below.
  1. Formulate and conduct educational, therapeutic and /or support groups, including teaching patients the tools they need to participate in treatment
  2. Assess and identify psychosocial, educational, developmental and behavioral functioning of the client/family system utilizing evidence-based practice and appropriate services that are needed. Complete assessment update during individual sessions and document when there are significant changes to the patient's condition.
  3. Consult with families on emotional, social and financial aspects of care
  4. Facilitate family meeting for all patients assigned
  5. Facilitate 1:1 sessions with all patients assigned where the individual service plan is created collaboratively with patients
  6. Develop an effective working relationship with patient and/or family - engagement, collaboration, advocacy, problem solving
  7. Evaluate and document effectiveness of interventions and patient responses
  8. Comply with required standards for medical/legal reporting situations (i.e. child abuse, dependent adult abuse, psychiatric commitment)
  9. Participate in team meetings, patient care conferences, service planning and communicate discharge needs to the clinical team
  10. Demonstrates knowledge of bio-psychosocial factors and DSM-5 related to the ages of the patients served and incorporates the knowledge into the service plan. Ability to also recognize the importance of adapting to the various patient age groups (adolescent and adult)
  11. Collaborate with the clinical team, UR, and treatment providers as necessary and ensure ROI is complete and communicate effectively with referral sources, health care team members and community providers regarding patient status and progress
  12. Maintain confidentiality in compliance with professional ethics according to professional and facility standards
  13. Participate in performance improvement projects and activities at the facility

PHYSICAL & SENSORY REQUIREMENTS, WORK ENVIRONMENT & CONDITIONS:
  • Ability to stand, or walk up to six hours, sit for up to two hours.
  • Ability to spend the workday indoors in temperatures varying from 60°-85o
  • Ability to occasionally push/pull wheeled carts up to 200 lbs. (i.e. crash carts, patients on stretchers or in wheel chairs).
  • Ability to frequently lift and carry up to 10 lbs. (charts, records).
  • Ability to see well enough to read written material.
  • Ability to handle hazardous/infectious waste on an occasional basis.
  • Ability to work in an environment where the noise level is occasionally high, where chemicals are frequently used for cleaning; where mechanical and electrical hazards may occasionally be present; and where dust, mist, and steam are frequently generated in housekeeping tasks.
  • Ability and knowledge of how to respond when exposed to blood and bodily fluids.
  • Ability to participate in the management of acutely agitated patients consistent with Handle with Care and hospital procedures.
