The Community Services Department (CSD) is responsible for providing enriching, fun, and meaningful opportunities for the community to come together. CSD operates the Epicenter Sports Complex, RC Family Resource Center, RC Sports Center, Victoria Gardens Cultural Center, Lions Center East and West, and Goldy S. Lewis Community Center and James L. Brulte Senior Center. In addition to 7 facilities there, are more than 30 different parks open to the community for passive use, park shelter and event rentals, hiking trails, athletic fields and City planned special events.

Applicants who are passionate about working in a department that values authentic community engagement, and promotes diversity, equity, and inclusion are particularly encouraged to apply.Under the direct supervision of the Theatre Production Supervisor, this position will supervise and provide hands-on operation of audio and video systems including design and operation of orchestral and musical theatre; audio/video design for designated performances, interpretation/implementation and advance of designs prepared by others, inventory/maintenance of all audio and video equipment, supervision and organization of designated facilities, storage areas and loading dock, and parking bay areas, as well as scheduling and supervision of subordinate part-time Theatre Technicians and volunteers as assigned. Primary responsibilities are for the operation of the Lewis Family Playhouse, Celebration Hall, and Imagination Courtyard at the Victoria Gardens Cultural Center. This position may also perform events related to audio and video services at other City facilities including the Epicenter Sports and Entertainment Complex, Community Centers, and various outdoor City facilities and may be assigned to work in other technical areas of theatre as needed and perform other related duties as required.
You'll be responsible for:
  • Serving as the Audio and Video Specialist for the Lewis Family Playhouse at Victoria Gardens Cultural Center for all main stage productions.
  • Setting up, operating, and maintaining permanent and temporary audio and video systems for the Victoria Gardens Cultural Center and other City facilities.
  • Serving as the primary operator of digital audio console and video playback equipment for performances and serve as the in-house audio and video designer for Playhouse presented shows.
  • Designing, creating, and utilizing required sound, music, and special effects cues required for performances.
  • Assisting in the acquisition of equipment and supplies.
  • Setting up all audio and video uses and serve as the Technical contact for all audio and video services for programming at the Cultural Center.
  • Developing and implementing a regular schedule for inventory and maintenance of all audio/video equipment at the Victoria Gardens Cultural Center; perform routine maintenance duties as necessary.
  • Assisting the Theatre Production Supervisor in the recruitment, hiring, training, and scheduling of subordinate technical staff; may be in charge of designated performances or projects in the absence of the Theatre Production Supervisor; will be responsible for maintaining a clean and safe work environment at all times and immediately reporting and mitigating any unsafe conditions or practices within the facility.

Education and/or Experience:
Must be at least 18 years of age. Education equivalent to the completion of the twelfth grade. Minimum of 5 years' experience in one or more of the following theatrical specialties: audio and video systems, theatrical lighting and electrical systems, theatrical carpentry and rigging systems, maintenance and show operation, theatrical and event production management and technical operations, or other advanced experience in theatre and events management and/or operation.
Have a proven track record of successfully working in a team environment including, working with apprentices, students, volunteers, as well as professional, community, and amateur groups; must be comfortable working in a leadership role; interface effectively with in-house and traveling productions.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Professional experience as a working stagehand of carpentry and construction, rigging, electrics, light, audio, and/or sounds systems is essential. Incumbent must have excellent interpersonal skills and be able to meet deadlines and work a flexible schedule (including evenings, weekends and holidays) and have a strong sense of responsibility and organizational skills. Ability to understand staging and rigging related to show designs. Exemplary safety record and experience in shop safety, rigging safety, and stage operation and installation safety. Experience in the field of electrical systems, lighting systems, and sound and video systems and their associated tools and safety equipment.
Have exceptional Audio/Visual experience with orchestra and musical theatre; have strong working knowledge of digital and analog audio equipment, wireless microphones, hardwired and wireless intercom, video projection and display systems, infrared video systems, computer-based video playback systems and the care, maintenance and troubleshooting of these systems. Knowledge of computer-based audio and video editing is a must. Familiarity with After Effects, Photoshop, Audition, Premiere, and ability to understand audio/video related show designs and lighting plots. Strong working knowledge of audio, video, data, and electrical principals. QLAB 2 and QLAB 3 are preferred. Familiarity with multi-platform computing, MIDI and DMX interfaces are advantageous.
Possess strong knowledge of single and 3-phase electrical principals; strong working knowledge of the programming and operation of modem, digital lighting consoles and dimming equipment, house power, DMX 512 technology, streaming CAN network interfacing protocols, ETC net 2/3 EDMX protocol, fixed and automated lighting fixtures and the care, maintenance and troubleshooting of these systems.
Possess working knowledge of the use of hand and power tools and their safe use and maintenance. Experienced in operating a counterweight fly system, knowledge of both dead-hung and dynamic rigging, the proper use of soft goods (draperies), construction, setup, rigging of theatrical scenery, temporary risers and staging, theatrical paint techniques including scenic painting, wood grain, faux stone, brick, stained glass, rust and other distressing techniques.
