Job Description
  • Work with the Technical Director (TD) to ensure the rules, regulations, and protocols of JCPRD and Theatre in the park are followed during the build of shows. This is an important step to ensure everyone's safety.
  • Assist the TD with interviewing and hiring of scenic crew staff.
  • Supervise and Train scenic crew in the safe operation of tools and equipment during the construction of theatrical set pieces.
  • Manage the scene shops to ensure all tools and equipment are maintained and report to the TD any malfunctions or safety concerns.
  • Allocate workflow to scenic carpenters based on workload and skill level.
  • Supervise, instruct, and build alongside scenic carpenters to meet production deadlines.
  • Read / interpret scenic design drawings to lead construction of scenic elements.
  • Consult with the Technical Director, and Scenic Charge to determine if the scenic elements, as designed, can be completed with given staff levels and timelines.
  • Oversee turnovers including load-in and strike teams.
  • Work with stage managers and production teams instructing them how to safely use the scenic elements.
  • Read all rehearsal / production reports, and answer / implement any scenic notes.
  • Attend Designer rehearsal and production meetings when there are scenic items on the agenda.
  • Ensure scene shop's material and hardware inventory remains sufficiently stocked.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Scheduling and shift assignments and work location may be changed at any time, as required by business necessity.
Job Requirements
  • High school graduate or GED equivalent.
  • Demonstrated skill in theatrical carpentry.
  • Firm understanding of construction tools/equipment and safety.
  • 2 years or more experience supervising crew members.

Preferred Job Requirements:
  • Familiarity with Vectorworks drafting software.
  • Demonstrated working knowledge of rigging systems.
  • Familiarity with Mig welding equipment.
