The Position:

Since 1987, Carlsbad has been home to TGIF Concerts in the Parks. Originally called "Jazz in the Parks," TGIF has grown into a highly anticipated and beloved concert series. For nine weeks, in June, July & August, FREE community concerts attract approximately 3,000 - 4000 friends, families and neighbors to listen to music in city parks. TGIF bares the distinction of being one of the oldest, on-going, municipally run events in San Diego County. In 2023, TGIF was voted the number-four best summer concerts series in the nation, as voted on in a USA TODAY readers' poll.

Under the direction of the Cultural Arts Programs & Venue Coordinator and Cultural Arts administrative staff, successful candidates will work as part of a team to turn community park baseball fields into concerts venues, and back again in one day, for nine consecutive Fridays from June 21 to August 16, 2024.

Availability
This is a part-time position with set hours:

8:30 A.M. - 11 P.M.

*Must also be available Saturdays.

Two Days of Required Orientation and Training:

Thursday, June 13, 2024. 3 P.M. - 5 P.M.

Thursday, June 20, 2024. 2 P.M. - 4 P.M.

*Part-time positions with the city are not benefited and cannot exceed 980 total hours worked in a fiscal year.

Supervise crew members individually and in teams as they:

• Move TGIF supplies & equipment to and from storage containers to concert site

• Assist with mobile stage & dance floor setup and breakdown

• Maintain cleanliness of concert area

• Address patron concerns, should they arise

• Report suspicious activity to site supervisor, and or law enforcement

• Provide feedback and direction to crew members as needed

• Complete event log and incident reports

• Ensure crew members are completing tasks in a timely manner

• Work with concert vendors and city personnel, as they arrive and leave event site

• Oversee the safety of the crew, the public, all vehicles, and city property

• Special events or project management practices and procedures

• Principles of supervision, training, motivation, and evaluation

• Sound communication practices and techniques

• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment while assigning or taking decisive actions as needed

Individuals must:

• Be at least 17 years of age as of June 20, 2024
• Have reliable transportation
• Be available to work one of three shifts offered - All-day preferred
• Demonstrate good communication skills
• Be comfortable working in a fast-paced environment
• Meet the cleanliness and dress code standards set by City of Carlsbad

Essential Functions:

• Must be able to lift 50-75 pounds

• Long period of standing, sitting and walking

• Travel to different sites and locations

  
  

Environmental Conditions:

• This position requires working outdoors

• The position requires exposure to loud noise levels for up to two-hour durations
• Exposure to flashing or intense stage lighting is possible

• Seasoned experience in supervision of crews or teams in concerts, construction, athletics, special events or basic military operations

• Possess a valid Class-C California Driver's License

• Preferred: High school diploma, G.E.D. equivalent, or some college

• Highly desired: Class-B California Driver License
