Textile and Apparel, Technology and Management (TATM):NC State's Wilson College of Textiles, and the Department of Textile and Apparel, Technology and Management, prepares future leaders for the textile, apparel, home, furniture, fashion, and retail industries.
Based in Raleigh, North Carolina, our undergraduate, and graduate programs incorporate global marketplace dynamics with a strategic management focus. Essential Job Duties
The TATM Studio Lab Assistant is part of a team tasked with the installation, operation, maintenance and training of specialty textile product development technologies such as computer controlled looms, laser cutting/etching, electronically-controlled flat-bed knitting machines, hand-held knitting machines, embroidery machines, and hand screen printing equipment, maintenance related tasks such as moving furniture, moving/configuring labs, and building display and Lab equipment.
The TATM Textile Studioand Lab Technicianprovides technical support services to the students and faculty in the Textile and Apparel, Technology, and Management (TATM) department in the Wilson College of Textiles. The Studio Lab Assistant assists with the operation and maintenance of lab equipment and space. Additionally, the Textile Studioand Lab Technician may assist the senior level technician with technologies such as maintenance of sewing machines, automatic cutters, and digital printers.
Other Responsibilities
Setting up, maintaining, and repairing weaving equipment such as:
  • Multi-Harness Floor looms.
  • Compu-Dobby Looms
  • Thread Controlled Digital Jacquard Manual looms
  • Setting up, maintaining, operating, and repairing knitting equipment
  • Maintain and repairing Embroidery machines
  • Setting up, maintaining, operating, and repairing hand knitting machines

Maintain and repairing Laser cutting equipment
  • Screen printing re-mesh repair and maintenance
  • Perform general mechanical maintenance using both power and hand tools.

Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Minimum Experience/Education
High school diploma or equivalency and two years of experience related to the area of assignment; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
Other Required Qualifications
  • Must be able to communicate effectively with students, faculty, and the general public and understand verbal and written instructions and other communications regarding work assignments and other matters.
  • Must have good verbal and written communication skills
  • Must be able to lift up to 60 pounds frequently, with or without reasonable accommodations.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with textile product development and manufacturing, operation of hand and power looms and knitting machines, embroidery, digital and screen printing and/or laser cutting.
  • Bachelor's degree in textile or textile related field or equivalent experience.
  • At least three years of experience in weaving operations.
  • Knowledge of knitting and digital printing machine repair and maintenance.
  • Experience with writing technical reports, and/or safety plans
