Join our team as a Test & Validation Associate Technologist and play a crucial role in developing cutting-edge construction and mining equipment. In this position, you will have the opportunity to install, program, operate, and validate advanced instrumentation and test equipment. You’ll leverage your expertise in measurement hardware and data acquisition to support our comprehensive test and validation programs at the Caterpillar Peoria Proving Grounds (PPG). Applying industry-leading instrumentation processes and best practices, you will ensure top-quality results that meet our product development standards in a dynamic lab setting. Additionally, you’ll contribute to field testing efforts at our Proving Ground and customer sites, ensuring real-world performance and reliability. You will also provide essential facility operational support, including managing the tilt table, dyno bay, tow dyno and load car. What You Will Do:

  • Apply technical (electrical, electronic, and mechanical) skills to install sensors, wiring, and data acquisition equipment on mining and construction equipment for the purpose of test and evaluation of safety, quality, performance, and efficiency of mining and construction equipment.
  • Make safety and health a priority during all work (and home) activities.  Engage in Caterpillar's culture of safety and participate in efforts and activities to continuously improve the safety of operations.
  • Install instrumentation to measure critical system and subsystem operational parameters including temperature, pressure, flow, strain, load, speed, and acceleration.  Perform all aspects of planning, execution, documentation, system programming, and validation of results.
  • Apply instrumentation knowledge to validate test set-ups and ensure that results are free of defects.  Evaluate instrumentation during static and dynamic verification of mining and construction equipment.
  • Work with mechanics, machine operators, engineers, and logisticians in a collaborative team environment to complete complex tasks safely, with the highest quality, while meeting project schedules and budgets.
  • Provide input to supervisor and team for continuous improvement (CI) and capital projects to improve safety, quality, velocity, and cost.  Aid team in the implementation of CI ideas.

What You Have (Basic Qualifications):

  • Degree/experience: Associate’s degree in Electronics, Electronics Technology, Mechanical, related technical field, OR progressive product development experience.
  • Effective communication: Strong communication skills and a demonstrated ability to build positive working relationships with co‑workers and customers.
  • Technical Excellence: Able to use a personal computer to access work management systems and documents and basic proficiency with MS Office (Excel, Word, and PowerPoint).
  • Product Testing: Experience in product testing approaches - ability to use measurement hardware and data acquisition to support comprehensive test and validation programs.

Top candidate will have:

  • Experience in instrumentation, electrical repair, electronics, electrical component development, or related technical area.
  • Technical and mechanical aptitude and knowledge of transducers and instrumentation.
  • Good oral and written communication skills and ability to work with technical and non-technical oriented individuals.
  • Experience with Caterpillar’s suite of validation management tools (WorkFlow, IronFlow, others) and products, services, and policies.

Additional Info:

  • Must be able to work continuously on one's feet for 8 to 10 hours per day in a variety of environmental conditions (i.e. inside/outside, hot/cold/inclement weather, dusty environment).
  • Ability to perform physically strenuous activities on occasion as related to typical worksite operations. 
  • Location: Peoria Proving Grounds (Washington, IL)
  • Domestic relocation is not available for this position.
  • Up to 10% domestic travel is expected.
  • ISE assignments are not available.
