Job Description:
The Test Engineer will play a pivotal role in both engineering and manufacturing processes, developing, and conducting comprehensive acceptance testing for assembled units and fully integrated platforms. This includes system acceptance testing (SAT) to ensure high-quality performance standards. The role demands a strong emphasis on technical writing and the formal documentation of unit test plans, test cases, test procedures, final test reports, and SAT procedures, as well as meticulous recording of test results. As a key player at World View, the Test Engineer will collaborate with engineers, manufacturing technicians, and testing technicians. Additionally, the role supports flight operations as needed, participating as part of the flight operations crew or with launch and ground operations teams.
Role Responsibilities:
- Conduct unit and system level testing on flight avionics platforms, including involvement with manufacturing processes to perform acceptance testing for assembled units and integrated systems.
- Develop and document comprehensive test plans, test cases, test procedures, and system acceptance testing (SAT) procedures
- Ensure thorough formal documentation of test results.
- Writing formal test reports.
- Maintain all test-related procedures to optimize throughput and efficiencies in both engineering and manufacturing contexts.
- Work with Systems, Electrical and Mechanical engineers to write test plans for qualification campaigns.
- Performing unit level qualification testing, summarizing results and submitting formal test reports.
- Work closely with other engineering disciplines and manufacturing technicians in an integrated team environment to facilitate a seamless transition from production to testing phases.
- Conduct detailed troubleshooting and root cause analysis to determine failure mechanisms of components, systems, and manufacturing processes.
- Ensure test lab equipment and layouts are documented and designed to meet both production and testing needs.
- Develop, maintain, and provide training on all test software and analytical equipment.
- Monitor and implement project test plans, ensuring timely delivery of corporate objectives and manufacturing schedules.
- Define vehicle configuration requirements per test phase and ensure compliance with manufacturing standards.
- Execute integrated product tests, perform data reduction, and support system acceptance testing phases.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited course of study in engineering, math, science, or equivalent experience, with a keen understanding of hardware and software testing.
- Proven ability to interface with a multidisciplinary technical team to design quality accelerated life tests, troubleshoot on-tool failures, conduct root cause analysis, and prepare formal reports.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficiency in technical writing with the ability to create detailed documentation for unit test plans, test cases, formal test reports and SAT procedures.
- Curiosity to understand avionics at both component and system levels, including manufacturing perspectives.
- Capability to prioritize and project manage across engineering and manufacturing timelines.
- Experience setting up and programming data acquisition systems is preferred.
- Willingness to engage in hands-on work within both engineering and manufacturing settings.
- Desire to work in a cooperative, fast-paced, and dynamic environment.
- Ability to maintain positive and professional relationships and contribute to a culture of inclusion.
Bonus Points
- On-console experience conducting system acceptance testing of complex systems.
- Experience conducting tests and evaluation of avionics systems, with consideration for the manufacturing process.
- Ability to build and maintain test equipment and integrate manufacturing considerations into testing apparatus.
- Experience with environmental testing pertinent to both engineering specifications and manufacturing standards.
- Comprehensive experience with electrical, software or mechanical systems.
- Proven track record on rapid development programs with an understanding of manufacturing constraints and requirements.
