The GJDH serves as a platform for developing and utilizing data tools that enable us to describe, predict, and monitor social movements. It also supports research initiatives aimed at deepening our understanding of social movements, improving our tools and systems, and sharing our findings with the broader community.

Through the GJDH, we aim to harness the power of data to inform evidence-based strategies, strengthen advocacy efforts, and drive positive change in the pursuit of gender justice worldwide.

About the Role

Global Fund for Women is seeking a highly motivated Data Analyst with experience in data visualization tools to provide support to our ongoing work at the GJDH.

As a Data Analyst, you will play a key role in collecting, analyzing, and visualizing data to inform and strengthen our gender justice initiatives. This includes understanding and interpreting socio-political realities in different countries, as well as having the ability to effectively communicate findings through clear reports and presentations in meetings with stakeholders. You will work closely with our team to identify relevant data sources, conduct thorough analysis, and present actionable insights that contribute to evidence-based decision-making.

Key Responsibilities

The Data Analyst will be responsible for gathering data from a social monitoring software, cleaning and organizing it for analysis. Additionally, they will analytics platforms such as Power BI to effectively visualize the data, creating interactive dashboards and clear presentations. This analysis will enable the identification of key trends, patterns, and opportunities that will assist in strategic decision-making for the organization.

The Data Analyst will work closely with external advisors and stakeholders to thoroughly understand the collected data, actively seeking input and perspectives to incorporate their feedback into the data analysis process.

The Data Analyst will lead internal stakeholders in the review and analysis of data, taking the initiative in coordinating and facilitating internal stakeholder discussions and analysis sessions. By effectively leading these efforts, the Data Analyst will ensure that data is thoroughly examined, interpreted, and discussed among internal teams.

Knowledge and Skills

• A comprehensive understanding of the contextual factors shaping movements within Albania, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Lebanon, Lesotho, Libya, Mongolia, or Thailand. This includes socio-political dynamics, historical events, power structures, policy frameworks, and current developments.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills in English and at least one of the following languages: Albanian, French, Swahili, Arabic, Sesotho, Mongolian, or Thai.

• Proficiency in quantitative/qualitative data analysis methods, including statistical analysis, data mining, text analysis, and sentiment analysis.
• Ability to apply appropriate analytical techniques to socio-political data sets to uncover patterns, trends, and correlations.

• Skilled use of Tableau, ggplot2, or Python libraries such as Matplotlib and Seaborn to create compelling visual representations of data for reports and presentations.

• Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, to convey complex findings and insights to diverse audiences.
• Ability to create clear and concise reports, presentations, and data-driven narratives that resonate with stakeholders.

• Strong attention to details.
• Ability to translate complex data into actionable insights.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively, manage multiple tasks, and meet tight deadlines.

Education and Experience

• Bachelor’s Degree in a field related to International Relations, Political Science, Economics, or fields closely related to Social Sciences.
• Demonstrated experience in applied, mixed-methods research including leading qualitative data collection.
• Proficiency in data management, data cleaning, and data analysis techniques.
• Experience in working with analytics plaforms such as Power BI and Meltwater.
• Minimum of two years of experience as a Data Analyst or in a related role.
• Familiarity with programming languages commonly used in data analysis, such as Python or R.

Duration and Compensation

This is a part-time position starting in March 2024 for four months, and we anticipate an average time commitment of 10 hours per week. However, the number of hours may vary weekly.

The Data Analyst will closely collaborate with a core team from Global Fund for Women based in Eastern Time (ET). Additionally, they will be expected to attend virtual core team meetings as required and monthly Advisory Group meetings.

The monthly compensation for this position is U$1,400, which includes fees and taxes. Please note that Global Fund for Women is unable to provide tax support.

This is a remote position, and candidates based outside the US are welcome to apply.
