Summary:
 

Energy Transfer is seeking an entry level Operations Technician at our Alto, MI location.  Under general supervision of Terminal Supervisor, the Terminal Operator is responsible for maintaining a safe and clean working environment and handling product receipt and delivery as well as the loading and unloading of railcars and trucks.  In addition, the individual in this position will conduct driver orientations and enforce company policies and procedures. 

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential job duty satisfactorily. The essential job duties for this position are listed below:

  • Operate a propane/butane storage terminal with rail and truck loading/unloading facilities
  • Perform various tasks including, but not limited to periodic inspections of equipment, troubleshoot process related issues to submit proper work request, and complete weekly maintenance work orders
  • Maintain the grounds including general maintenance, painting, mowing, snow plowing etc.
  • Test system safety devices and periodic inspection/calibration of process equipment
  • Conduct driver orientations and enforce company policies and procedures along with creating work permits and hazard assessments
  • Comply with OSHA 1910.119 PSM regulation as it applies to the Alto operation
  • Perform and document product quality testing
  • Complete required computer-based training
  • Ability to occasionally travel to work or field locations, and/or to attend meetings or training
  • Maintain full compliance with applicable regulations.
  • Ensuring conformance with all policies and procedures.
  • Operating in accordance with industry performance standards.
  • Promoting environmental awareness and responsibility to minimize our operational footprint.
  • Participating in training and development programs.
  • Continually seeking to improve our safety and environmental performance.
  • Reporting unsafe work practices.
     

Required Education:

  • High school diploma or GED

Minimum Requirements: 

  • Previous experience in the LPG industry and or truck / railroad terminal operations is preferred
  • Good verbal and written communication skills
  • Mechanical, electrical or instrumentation experience or education, in an industrial environment would be an asset
  • Basic computer skills, comfortable using Microsoft Outlook, Word and Excel and various computer platforms
  • Able to operate a computer, copy machine, fax machine, calculator, telephone and other miscellaneous office equipment
  • Able to work independently with minimal supervision or within a small, dynamic team in a fast- paced environment
  • A valid Driver's License is a condition of employment
  • Work schedule varies depending upon workload and seasonally, with occasional overtime, and requires work on nights, weekends, and holidays
Required experience is commensurate with the selected job level:
  • Level C requires a minimum of 0 - 2 years of relevant experience in a midstream operations role or equivalent work experience
  • Level B requires a minimum of 2 - 4 years of relevant experience in a midstream operations role or equivalent work experience
  • Level A requires a minimum of 4+ years of relevant experience in a midstream operations role or equivalent work experience
Working Conditions and Requirements:
 
The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.
  • Candidates can anticipate the Terminal adding a 3rd shift to the schedule during the November - March months to cover increased winter demand.
  • Potential for 3rd shift occurs at other times throughout the year periodically, when volume of work requires 24/7 coverage. 
  • The Terminal management will provide reasonable notice of changes ahead of the schedule modification. Management can make no guarantees on preferred shift but will consult on an individual basis with employees about availability.
  • Occasional on-call work with the ability to respond to facility within 1 hour.
  • Comfortable using a truck with plow, tractor, and industrial forklift

  • Frequently required to sit, stand, walk, kneel, and reach with hands and arms
  • Regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, climb ladders and stairs, and work at heights of 30 feet
  • Ability to work in a safe manner and remain alert during scheduled shifts
  • Ability to work outdoors with varying weather conditions
  • Ability to work in environments with varying noise levels
  • Ability to use shovel, rake and other related hand tools for dirt work and snow removal
  • Ability to wear a safety harness
