DescriptionGovernors State University is a minority-serving institution and emerging Hispanic-serving institution in the Chicago Southland region seeking to hire full-time, tenure track positions at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor and University Lecturer. Employment will start for the Fall 2024 semester with hiring continuing until positions are filled. Qualified applicants will have earned Doctoral degrees in Behavioral Health, and Community or Public Health with industry experience. We are seeking candidates with expertise in one or more of the following areas:
  • Health promotion and education
  • Health promotion evaluation and implementation
  • Community Health systems and theories
  • Research methods and skills

  • The successful candidate will be expected to a) have outstanding teaching skills to teach and update undergraduate courses b) have experience working with non-traditional and diverse student populations c) assist with the development of academic program and assessment and d) participate in appropriate professional development including serving on committees, maintaining a strong record of scholarship, and cultivating good connections with industry partners. Located within the Department of Addictions Studies and Behavioral Health the division of Community Health, in the College of Health and Human Services, offers the Bachelor of Health Sciences in Community Health. The dynamic and committed program faculty serve approximately 200 students in ASBH at the undergraduate and graduate level, including both domestic and international students, as part of our mission to prepare students to succeed in a global society. Governors State University is the only regional public comprehensive university in Chicago’s south suburban area, serving more than 5,000 students annually. GSU offers a wide variety of master’s programs and several applied doctoral degrees in health, counseling fields, and Interdisciplinary Leadership. GSU’s 750-acre campus encompasses the award-winning Nathan Manilow Sculpture Park yet is conveniently located within easy reach of Chicago and surrounding communities with a wealth of cultural and natural attractions.     Required and Preferred QualificationsMinimum Qualifications
  • Doctorate in Community Health, Public Health or related degree with a minimum of 1 year teaching in a university setting (ABD candidates may be considered);
  • Knowledge and ability to teach a wide range of undergraduate courses.
  • Documented record of an ability to make intellectual contributions through scholarly publications/presentations.
  • Ability to complement the program’s strengths.
  • Preferred Qualifications
  • Teaching and/or professional experience in the field.
  • Interest in and ability to develop and teach online (web-based) courses.
  • Experience teaching in higher education.
  • Experience in advising, mentoring, and supervising graduate students.
  • Experience in program development and accreditation.
  • Experience with the Community Health/public health field.
  • Experience with research and grant writing.
