The Irvine Ranch Water District is currently accepting applications for a Temporary Student Intern in our Information Technology (IT) Department. This is an in-person position, located at 15600 Sand Canyon Ave., Irvine, CA 92618.

Established in 1961 as a California Water District under the provisions of the California Water Code, IRWD is an independent special district serving central Orange County. The Position:
Under General supervision, Student Interns will perform a variety of research tasks and support work and prepares comprehensive reports and studies as assigned, work directly with professional and technical staff in assigned area. Temporary Student Interns assigned to Information Technology will get exposure in various aspects of technology in the water industry and will be utilized in different areas as needed. Temporary Student Interns will receive hands on training emphasizing teamwork, independence, and development of technical skills.
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS
Student Intern(s) must be actively enrolled as a student in an institution of higher learning at either the undergraduate or graduate level.
Troubleshoot software issues, apply problem solving skills, and present and implement solutions.
Perform unit and system testing and communicate with end users.
Perform software applications testing for integration, usability, and functionality completeness.
Perform project tracking, including preparation of status reports and documentation.
Assist with preparation of software development documentation.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Comply with District safety work-related practices and attend relevant safety training.
Education:
- At the time of appointment, active enrollment as a student in an institution of higher learning either at the undergraduate or graduate level is required. Must be majoring in Computer Science, Information Technology, Computer Engineering, or a computer related major at the sophomore, junior or senior bachelor's degree level.
Experience:
- No experience required. Position does require good communication skills to effectively deal with District employees.
Knowledge and Abilities:
- Ability to work part-time (minimum 10 hours/week) during the school year and (30 hours/week) during summer breaks.
- Knowledge of research methods and data collection techniques including statistical methods, English usage, grammar, punctuation, report writing techniques and intermediate to advanced level skill in Microsoft Office Suite required. Prior experience with Microsoft Project Management, SQL Database and application development desired.

Ability to explain, demonstrate and clarify to others within well established policies, procedures and standards, as well as the ability to follow specific instructions and respond to simple and difficult requests from others.
Mathematical Ability
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, divide and calculate percentages.
Technology Ability
Proficient in the use of MS Office Suite (Word, Excel). Keyboarding abilities sufficient to perform the job.
Judgment and Situational Reasoning Ability
Ability to use good personal judgment and discretion in performing all job functions. Ability to remain calm in crisis and emergency situations. Ability to use discretion when handling and disseminating sensitive and confidential information.
Physical Requirements
Regularly required to sit, walk, bend, stoop and stand. Occasionally required to lift up to 25 lbs.
Environmental Adaptability
Noise level is generally equivalent to a typical office environment.
