The Special Education Teacher is responsible for supporting students who require intensive and systematic instruction based on Applied Behavior Analysis and other evidenced-based practices that is built upon a meaningful and relevant curriculum to learn essential communication, academic, social-emotional and community skills.
The Special Education Teacher works collaboratively with the classroom team including a speech-language pathologist, occupational therapist, administrators and parents to facilitate the educational benefit of students with moderate-to-severe autism and similar needs.

- Implement instructional practices based in the field of Applied Behavior Analysis and the VB-MAPP to assess student strengths and needs and design instruction to teach essential communication, social, academic and group skills and successful generalization of skills
- Utilize effective data collection systems to monitor, change and adapt instruction as needed.
- Design and implement classroom-wide behavior management strategies and individual supports to increase social emotional growth and student engagement
- Facilitate team meetings designed to promote integrity of instructional support and problem-solving
- Provide frequent communication and work collaboratively with families and private providers to support needs within home and link them to community resources
- Identify and support opportunities for meaningful peer interactions
- Provide support, coaching and feedback to support teaching assistants within the classroom and at team meetings
- Other duties that have been communicated to the teacher
- Illinois Professional Educator License with Special Education Teaching Endorsement (LBS1 unlimited)
- Experience utilizing intensive, highly individualized evidenced-based interventions, including Applied Behavior Analysis to teach students with autism and other related disabilities
