Job Description
The Temporary Personal Use Fishery Cashier is a temporary entry-level position, working under the general supervision of the Assistant Parks & Recreation Director during the Kenai River Personal Use Fishery, which takes place from approximately July 10 through July 31. The Fishery cashier performs a range of duties to assist the public in support of the Fishery, including but not limited to the City Dock, parking and camping areas, and Kenai River north and south shore beach access areas. Duties are primarily associated with providing customer service and using electronic equipment to conduct monetary transactions related to the Fishery and occasional tasks to support the work of other departments.
PLEASE NOTE:Temporary Personal Use Fishery Cashiers work varying schedules, including including mornings, evenings, weekends, holidays, and occasional shift extensions during the approximately 21-day Personal Use Fishery. The schedule is based on 12-hour shifts each day with up to 84 hours scheduled each work week. Hours worked over forty (40) hours in the work week are paid as overtime at one and one-half times the regular rate of pay.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  1. Greet Personal Use Fishery participants and accept funds in the form of credit or debit cards for services purchased.
  2. Assist Personal Use Fishery participants and answer questions from the public related to the use of available City services and facilities, including parking, camping, boat launching, garbage dumpsters, and portable toilets.
  3. Monitor assigned area and ensure operation of all vehicles and activities are in compliance with rules for the area.
  4. Communicate and work cooperatively with other City Departments, employees, City contractors, and the general public, including informing superiors of issues that may arise, such as broken equipment, vandalism, and potential safety hazards.
  5. Perform general organizational and clean-up work.
  6. Set up facilities for City functions and other special events. This work requires moving tables, chairs, traffic cones.
  7. Work with others and deal courteously and effectively with the public.
  8. Perform tasks with minimal or no supervision.
  9. Attend Department training programs.
  10. Have regular, reliable, and predictable attendance at work.
  11. Perform other work as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications
  1. Be at least eighteen (18) years of age.
  2. Possess any combination of training and experience that provides the applicant with the knowledge, skill, and ability to perform the essential job functions.
  3. Must be available to work varying schedules, including weekends, City holidays, and occasional shift extensions. The schedule is based on 12-hour shifts each day with up to 84 hours scheduled each work week. Hours worked over forty (40) hours in the work week are paid as overtime at one and one-half times the regular rate of pay.
Desirable Qualifications
1. Work experience in customer service and familiarity with the geography of the City of Kenai including its parks and beaches.
WORKING ENVIRONMENT The work environment is typically indoors in a temporary structure that is heated and lighted. Ventilation is available by opening a window. The employee must work in all kinds of weather (e.g., high or low temperatures, fog, direct sunlight, wind) and in dirt and dust. Work is to be performed at, above, or below floor or ground level. Duties are performed primarily indoors in a varied working environment, during day and night. Noise from vehicles and other equipment is frequent. Personal protective equipment is provided and must be used in accordance with best practices, federal and state laws, and City/Department policies and operating procedures.
PHYSICAL DEMANDSThis position requires a moderate level of physical ability, including vision, hearing, and speaking. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to use hands and fingers dexterously to operate office equipment, including telephones, computers, keyboards, card readers; sit for extended periods of time; and stand, walk, stoop, crouch, and reach with hands and arms. The employee must be able to hear and to talk and communicate verbally in person as well as on the phone and perform general duties that may include, but not be limited to, walking, stooping, bending, kneeling, climbing, pushing, pulling, reaching, dragging, and carrying; is required to exert (often lifting) up to 50 pounds of force frequently and in excess of 100 pounds of force occasionally. Specific vision requirements include close, distance, color and peripheral vision, the ability to adjust focus, and the ability to judge distances and spatial relationships. The employee must be able to hear and to talk and communicate verbally in person as well as on a radio and telephone.
